Job Description Job Title: Sr Sanitation Lead (3rd Shift) Job Description The Sr Sanitation Lead oversees all sanitation activities on an assigned shift to ensure a clean, food-safe, and well-organized production environment. This role coordinates daily assignments, trains and develops sanitation team members, and verifies that all work meets strict sanitation, safety, and quality specifications. The Sr Sanitation Lead acts as the primary backup to the Sanitation Supervisor in their absence and leads a large team to consistently achieve high standards of food safety and operational excellence. Responsibilities • Lead and oversee all sanitation activities on the assigned shift to maintain a clean, food-safe facility, surrounding areas, and equipment., • Coordinate daily assignments, schedules, and resource allocation for sanitation team members to ensure efficient completion of tasks., • Lead a team of 20+ employees, including 2 or more Line Leads, and provide coverage for all leads in the department as needed., • Cover sanitation leadership responsibilities for the entire factory in the absence of the Sanitation Supervisor., • Support the onboarding and orientation of new employees and provide continual coaching and training to sanitation personnel., • Train and educate sanitation personnel on safety practices, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), test methods, sanitation procedures, and proper use of equipment and chemicals., • Review daily sanitation reports and ensure that corrective and preventive actions are implemented promptly to address any deficiencies or poor sanitation practices., • Perform testing of sanitation chemicals as needed to verify correct concentrations and safe, effective usage., • Observe and enforce strict adherence to sanitation specifications, procedures, and regulatory requirements by all team members., • Conduct environmental and product surface swabbing as needed to identify unsanitary surfaces and support verification of cleaning effectiveness., • Maintain sanitation inventory by monitoring supply levels, identifying items that are running low, and requesting replenishment of materials and chemicals., • Manage the chemical storage area (chemicals cage) and sanitation supplies to ensure proper organization, labeling, and safe handling., • Work closely with the Sanitation Supervisor or Manager to develop and improve cleaning procedures, the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), and test methodologies., • Ensure all sanitation activities are completed on time and in accordance with the Master Sanitation Schedule., • Support root cause identification and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions for sanitation, food safety, and quality issues., • Enforce and promote workplace safety procedures with all team members and consistently model safe work practices and behaviors., • Coordinate and conduct weekly safety training with team members following the published training schedule, and complete all required training records., • Communicate regularly with Production Supervisors on previous and next shifts to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of tasks and responsibilities., • Partner effectively with other plant departments, including Production, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Engineering, and Warehouse, to address potential food safety or quality issues and resolve operational concerns., • Provide strong communication and collaboration with quality assurance and production teams to maintain high standards of food safety and product quality., • Examine completed work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to sanitation and quality specifications., • Complete required documentation accurately and summarize shift performance at the end of each day, including safety, quality, productivity, and delivery metrics., • Maintain a working knowledge of all equipment and tools in the facility while observing all sanitation and safety precautions., • Ensure team members perform only those job functions for which they have been properly trained and which they fully understand., • Train sanitation personnel in best practices, safety procedures, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and appropriate cleaning and sanitation of equipment., • Demonstrate dependability by being punctual, adhering to attendance policies, and working overtime and weekends as required by business needs., • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives within the sanitation function in collaboration with the Sanitation Manager., • Proven experience in sanitation within a food production or similar environment, with responsibility for facility and equipment cleanliness and food safety., • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a team of 20 or more employees, including line leads or front-line leaders., • Experience supporting or backing up a supervisor or manager in a production or sanitation setting., • Strong understanding of food safety and quality principles and their application in a manufacturing environment., • Ability to interpret, follow, and enforce sanitation procedures, Master Sanitation Schedules, and related documentation., • Experience reviewing sanitation reports and implementing timely corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)., • Knowledge of chemical usage and testing for sanitation applications, including verifying correct concentrations and safe handling., • Familiarity with environmental and product surface swabbing to assess sanitation effectiveness., • Ability to train and coach team members on safety practices, GMPs, test methods, sanitation procedures, and equipment usage., • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with production, quality assurance, engineering, warehouse, and other plant departments., • Capability to examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to specifications and standards., • Ability to complete required documentation accurately and summarize shift performance using safety, quality, productivity, and delivery metrics., • Demonstrated dependability, including punctuality and adherence to attendance policies., • Ability to work 3rd shift (8:00 PM – 4:30 AM) and to work overtime and weekends based on business needs., • Experience working with Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS) and contributing to the development or improvement of cleaning procedures., • Comes from quality assurance, food quality, standard operating procedures (SOPs), inspection, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)., • Experience coordinating and documenting weekly safety training sessions for team members., • Strong organizational planning skills to manage schedules, resources, and multiple priorities effectively., • Demonstrated decision-making skills in a fast-paced production environment., • Ability to maintain and manage inventory of sanitation supplies and chemicals, including a chemicals cage or similar controlled area., • Experience working closely with cross-functional support staff such as QA Technicians, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Supervisors, and Warehouse personnel., • Capability to identify and support continuous improvement efforts related to sanitation, safety, and quality., • Comfort working with documentation and recordkeeping systems related to sanitation, safety, and quality performance. This role is based in a food production facility with a wide range of temperatures, from sub-0°ree; conditions in certain areas to approximately 85°ree; in others. The position is scheduled for 3rd shift, typically from 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM, and includes weekend work as required, generally not exceeding 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed based on business demands. The work environment requires strict adherence to safety procedures, GMPs, and sanitation standards, as well as the consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The Sr Sanitation Lead works in and around production equipment, sanitation tools, and chemical storage areas, maintaining a strong focus on safe chemical handling and proper equipment operation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Los Angeles, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
