Position Summary The Fresh Air Fund is hiring Per Diem Outdoor Instructors to work in our Environmental Center at Sharpe Reservation in Fishkill, NY. This is an on-call, part-time, per diem position that is scheduled to work on an “as required” and “as available” basis, with flexible work opportunities available throughout the year. Per Diem Instructors facilitate outdoor and environmental education lessons ranging from pond ecology to team building. ABOUT YOU You are energetic, outgoing, and enjoy working with people of all ages. In this role, you will lead daily poolside activities, create engaging experiences for members, and support a positive team environment. You are comfortable taking initiative, organizing programs, and helping staff stay engaged and responsive. Your goal is to create a welcoming atmosphere while ensuring smooth daily operations on the pool deck. WHAT YOU’LL DO Daily Poolside Programming • Plan and lead recreational activities for children, families, and members, • Organize activities such as lawn games, pool challenges, water volleyball, trivia, crafts, and themed events, • Create a welcoming and energetic poolside environment, • Encourage participation and interaction among members and families, • Provide on-deck leadership and support to lifeguards and seasonal staff, • Help ensure staff remain visible, engaged, and responsive, • Reinforce safety standards and facility policies, • Assist with special events, holiday programming, and weekend activities, • Assist with setup and organization of activity areas, • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized pool environment, • Track participation and provide feedback to improve programming, • Basic understanding of pool operations, including checking water chemical levels and reporting any issues to ensure a safe environment OUR REQUIREMENTS • Experience in recreation, aquatics, camp programming, hospitality, or event coordination, • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, • Ability to engage with children, families, and members of all ages, • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, • CPR/AED/First Aid certification required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: • Current Lifeguard certification preferred, • Previous experience leading group activities or supervising staff SALARY $25-$27 per hour BENEFITS (for full time employees) The JCC of Staten Island is committed to keeping you and your family healthy and happy through a comprehensive benefits program.
