Job DescriptionDescription: Position Overview Bread Alone Director of Distribution & Warehouse Operations is responsible for managing wholesale department receiving, putaway, product packing and outbound logistics. This is a senior-level management role with a broad mandate to manage and optimize a critical department within the organization, overseeing 30+ employees and ~20 vehicles. This position leads inbound and outbound dock and warehouse operations, promoting safe, compliant and efficient performance from receiving of raw ingredients and supplies to final delivery of finished goods. This role oversees the following groups of employees at Bread Alone: Distribution Professionals that work on the loading dock and stage and load product onto vehicles; Route Drivers that transport product to end customers; Warehouse Specialists who receive inventory and operate material handling equipment; and Supply Chain Specialists who contribute across the broad range of daytime supply chain functions. The Director will work with the department’s managers, supervisors, dispatchers, and drivers to ensure high service levels and make continuous improvements on safety, cost, and business analytics. Bread Alone operates 24 hours and this role oversees an overnight driving team. As a result this role requires flexibility in schedule and a keen eye for creating systems that allow managers to make good decisions around the clock. The Director of Distribution & Warehouse Operations reports to the Bread Alone CFO. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties, responsibilities, and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: • Manage distribution & warehouse department employees, including hiring and termination, training, professional development, and progressive discipline, • Support the purchasing and production departments by providing reliable inventory management, including SQF compliant receiving and storage practices, frequent cycle counts and digital record keeping., • Maintain cooperative relationships with staff and contribute to a positive team environment through continual training and professional development, • Oversee weekly department schedules for driving and floor teams, posted 2 weeks in advance, • Manage distribution route orders, meeting customer needs while ensuring route efficiency, • Oversee weekly department reporting metrics, including route sales, product returns, and total route costs, • Emphasize workplace safety across department and continually improve through employee training and workplace improvements, • Oversee appropriate Department of Transportation and Department of Motor Vehicles regulations and requirements, • Oversee truck maintenance, including regularly scheduled maintenance and emergency services as necessary, • Oversee new vehicle acquisition, including truck purchases and leases as most appropriate for needs of business, • Maintain and improve best practices to ensure that products are staged and delivered to maximize customer experience, and department efficiency, • Support outstanding customer care experience by setting up new customer deliveries on appropriate routes, and meeting other customer needs for deliveries, • Interface with other Bread Alone department managers, including bread production, customer care, sanitation, maintenance, and administration, • Supervise operation of Bread Alone’s NYC warehouse in Queens, • Maintain relationships with network of 3rd party distributors used for Bread Alone deliveries to areas and customers that are not serviced by company routes, • Work with supervisor staff to follow-through on special orders and other special needs of shift, • Direct emergency coverage as necessary in event of truck breakdowns or team call-outs, • Use and implement better route efficiency through Samsara/MOB and other systems, • Standard working hours: 40 to 50 hours per week with a dynamic schedule based on the needs of the department and need to collaborate with other company leaders., • Primary schedule will be mid-week, daytime hours, but evening, overnight, and weekend hours will be required based on the needs of the department, • Willing and able to drive straight trucks (26’), • Experience with Microsoft and Google product suites, • Experience with DSD bread management a plus, • Experience with route management and tracking software a plus, • Experience with fleet management and truck maintenance a plus, • At least 5 years in management roles of increasing responsibility, • Able to stand for long periods of time while executing tasks quickly and accurately, • Able to to work in a physically demanding fast-paced environment, • Able to tolerate exposure to high levels of heat and cold, • Able to twist and bend repeatedly for long periods of time, • Able to pull, push, move and lift to waist level, • Able to carry awkward and shifting weights up to 50 pounds in a safe and controlled manner, • Ability to repeatedly lift 50lbs, • Able to work with, handle, operate, and control hot equipment and products in a safe manner according to Bread Alone guidelines, • Willing to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices which includes but are not limited to: Removing any visible or exposed piercings and body jewelry, personal accessories, false nails & refraining from makeup at work (ie. mascara or heavy foundation, lipstick), • Night, weekend, and holiday availability per needs of production, • Respect for and comfort with a diverse and inclusive workplace, • Able and willing to use personal protective equipment (PPE) and assigned uniform as required per company policy, • Able to gain proficiency in operating and instructing on the proper use of all systems(physical and technological) in use in your department, • Willing to follow all safety guidelines set out by Bread Alone, • Willing to take responsibility for your own and others safety by strictly enforcing all safety rules and regulations and taking steps to mitigate any unsafe conditions or practices enlisting the help of others as needed, • The Bakery is open 365 days a year and team members must be willing to work consistently throughout the year which includes holidays and weekends Job Type: Full-time, exempt Compensation: $95,000 to $130,000 annually We Offer Company-Wide, Rewarding Success Together: We believe in sharing success with our team.
