Job Description The Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Department at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) is hiring a Senior Veterinarian for our ER. The AMC is one of the nation's largest facilities for animal care, research, and education. The state-of-the-art hospital operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, with 55,000 patient visits annually. Over 140 veterinarians comprise the professional staff, representing all specialties, and providing a progressive, stimulating, and rewarding working environment. About Emergency & Critical Care at AMC The ECC Department is currently comprised of ten board-certified specialists in ECC, seven internship-trained emergency doctors, nine residents, 35 licensed technicians (several with their VTS in ECC), and 22 assistants. In our open new-renovated ICU, patients are co-managed by ECC and allied services or managed primarily by the ECC team. Our ER is at the hospital's center, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has an active caseload of nearly 20,000 visits per year. AMC is the only VETCOT certified, Level one trauma center in the region. The Senior Veterinarian in ER will play a paramount and integral role in the Emergency and Critical Care Department. The clinical responsibilities of our ER doctors include primary case receiving as well as oversight of the interns and ECC residents seeing emergency cases. The overnight rotation for ER doctors includes oversight and monitoring of all pets hospitalized in the ICU and of the interns in the ER. The senior ER doctor schedule varies among daytime, swing, and overnight shifts, during which time you will be working alongside 1-3 senior ER doctors and/or criticalists and 4-6 rotating interns (shift depending). Senior ER doctors share responsibilities in the ER with the boarded criticalists and senior ECC residents. The Senior Veterinarian in ER role is demanding but extremely gratifying as it allows the opportunity for infinite growth. Job Description Licensed Veterinary Technician working in Internal Medicine (IM) performing Dialysis must be able to perform at a high level of practice with minimal supervision. The role includes assisting internists with appointments, client communication, and collaborating with staff doctors to make daily assessments and procedures run smoothly and efficiently. The Internal Medicine & Dialysis LVT assists with dialysis catheter placement and urinary and scoping procedures. This role will also assist with running Dialysis and extracorporeal therapy treatments. The IM & Dialysis LVT is responsible for routine care and maintenance of the Dialysis suite, including inventory and machine maintenance. About Emergency & Critical Care at AMC The AMC is one of the nation's largest facilities for animal care, research, and education. The state-of-the-art hospital operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, with 55,000 patient visits annually. Over 140 veterinarians comprise the professional staff, representing all specialties, and providing a progressive, stimulating, and rewarding working environment. The ECC Department is currently comprised of ten board-certified specialists in ECC, seven internship-trained emergency doctors, nine residents, 35 licensed technicians (several with their VTS in ECC), and 23 assistants. In our open new-renovated ICU, patients are co-managed by ECC and allied services or managed primarily by the ECC team. Our ER is at the hospital's center, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has an active caseload of nearly 20,000 visits per year. AMC is the only VETCOT certified, Level 1 trauma center in the region. The Avian and Exotic Service at AMC provides 7-day/week veterinary care for a varied caseload of approximately 2,600 animals/year comprising birds, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and some fish. The clinician will join a service consisting of one full-time ABVP board-certified veterinarian (Reptile and Amphibian Practice), 2 part-time ABVP board-certified veterinarians (Avian Practice), and 1 per diem clinician. The Service also includes 2 house officers (2 specialty interns or intern/resident), 4 full-time and part-time technicians, 4 full-time assistants, and 1 service coordinator. Clinical and Service Responsibilities In a 4-day work week, clinical responsibilities consist of daily clinical appointments, inpatient care, clinical procedures, and consulting on walk-in emergency cases. You will share oversight and training of house officers in avian and exotic pet medicine and surgery and in the training of general rotating interns. As a Level 1 Trauma Center, the AMC Emergency and Critical Care Department provides 24-hour emergency service. No on-call emergency duty is required.
