Job Description Job Title: Duct installer/Tin Knocker Job Description This role supports commercial construction projects by installing HVAC duct systems and mechanical piping, assisting with equipment placement, and ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and project specifications. You will work under mechanics while independently completing assigned tasks, contributing to the successful delivery of large-scale mechanical systems. Responsibilities • Install commercial HVAC duct systems, including ductwork layout, sheet metal assembly, and associated components such as VAVs, RTUs, and AHUs., • Perform mechanical piping installation for copper, steel, PVC, and ProPress systems, including threading, brazing, and pipe fitting., • Assist with setting and aligning HVAC equipment, including hangers, supports, and vibration isolation systems., • Interpret and work from mechanical blueprints, including drawings, risers, and isometric diagrams, to execute accurate installations., • Support mechanical troubleshooting efforts, including diagnosing airflow issues, leaks, and alignment problems, and assisting in corrective actions., • Follow all safety procedures and regulations, including OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout protocols, and confined space guidelines., • Install and assist with basic HVAC controls, including thermostats, low-voltage wiring, and sensors., • Use sheet metal tools, pipe threading machines, brazing torches, snips, shears, and press tools to complete assigned tasks efficiently and safely., • Operate scissor lifts and boom lifts to access elevated work areas on active construction sites., • Collaborate with mechanics, foremen, and other trades to coordinate work, meet project schedules, and maintain high-quality standards., • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members, follow directions, and provide updates on task status and any issues encountered., • Maintain a clean and organized work area, properly handle tools and equipment, and support a safe, team-oriented jobsite environment. Essential Skills • 1–5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction., • Hands-on experience with commercial HVAC installation, including ductwork layout, sheet metal assembly, and installation of VAVs, RTUs, and AHUs., • Proficiency in pipefitting for copper, steel, PVC, and ProPress systems, including brazing and threading., • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, including drawings, risers, and isometric diagrams., • Experience with equipment setting, including installation of hangers, supports, and vibration isolation., • Mechanical troubleshooting skills for airflow issues, leaks, and alignment problems., • Knowledge of safety compliance requirements, including OSHA standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and confined space practices., • Basic understanding of HVAC controls, including thermostats, low-voltage wiring, and sensors., • Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and work safely on ladders and lifts., • Familiarity with sheet metal tools, pipe threading machines, brazing torches, snips, shears, and press tools., • Experience operating scissor lifts and boom lifts on construction sites., • Strong communication skills and the ability to take direction and work effectively as part of a team. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Certifications such as OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 are preferred., • EPA 608 certification is preferred., • Brazing certifications are preferred., • Experience working on large-scale commercial projects such as hospitals, schools, data centers, base building, and interior fit-outs., • Comfort working in a fast-paced, team-oriented construction environment., • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality workmanship. You will use lifts, power tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE) on a regular basis, and you will frequently work at heights using scissor lifts and boom lifts. The role requires consistent adherence to safety protocols and a strong focus on teamwork and communication in a dynamic jobsite setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jackson, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $45.00/hr.
