The Jamaica YMCA is seeking a Mechanic who, under the direct supervision of the Property Manager, will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems at the YMCA, as well as its off-sites. They will perform building repair, maintenance, and cosmetic upgrades as directed. The Mechanic will also clean and maintain the inside and outside of the YMCA and its off-sites, including, but not limited to, the sidewalks, hallways, stairways, bathrooms, shower rooms, offices, and all program areas. Key Responsibilities: * Perform repairs and preventive maintenance in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and swimming pool equipment (where applicable). * Perform building construction work as directed by branch leadership. * Clean all bathrooms, classrooms, locker rooms, Fitness Center, Free Weight Room, offices, Gymnasium, and all other spaces within the branch. * Store all deliveries, move furniture, set up and break down rooms, and remove snow. * Strip and wax the floors and shampoo rugs as needed. * Inform the Property Manager of all building issues. * Responsible for painting when assigned. * Follow the standards of the DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments. * Other duties as assigned. Desired Skills & Experience: * High School Diploma or equivalent required. * Three (3) to five (5) years of maintenance and building construction work experience and progressive responsibility. * Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with a basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment. * Knowledge of the use of mechanical test equipment. * Must have the ability to maintain and adjust controls, systems, preventative maintenance, and repair. * Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use (MSOS). * Maintain FDNY, DOB, and DOH logbooks as required. * Must be able to maintain the pool, including reading, repairing, and maintaining. * Current Fire Safety Director certification or must pass the Fire Safety Director Certification within one (1) year of attaining the position. * Obtain Building Certification within three (3) months of attaining the position. * Must obtain S12, S13, and C42 Pool Certifications within one (1) year of attaining the position. Subject to mid-year and annual review. * Must be able to work flexible hours as well as overnight. Must be on call 24/7 when the Property Manager is not on-site. Desired Skills & Experience: * Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts or equivalent years of experience required. * One (1) to three (3) years of administrative and community relations experience required. Key Responsibilities: * Provide outstanding hospitality to all members and guests. * Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and ownership of the YMCA. * Assist in the scheduling, maintenance, and management of facility and equipment in partnership with the branch’s maintenance department. * Assist with the management of programs to maximize member satisfaction, revenue, and compliance with the YMCA standards. * Assist with recruiting, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating program staff. * Execute administrative duties, i.e., tracking, reports, schedules, equipment, supplies, and payroll. * Assist in the development, control, and tracking of departmental budget in accordance with the branch and Association guidelines. * Research, facilitate, and build quality programs that provide member satisfaction. * Set annual priority objectives-improve service, based on annual staff and customer evaluation/feedback. * Serve as a point of contact for all Healthy Lifestyles & Sports staff. * Track and ensure that staff certifications are current and on file. * Maintain required certifications, which are tracked in Club Connect. * Attend current hospitality training within ninety (90) days of hire. * Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate action in emergency situations. * Serve as a branch Manager on Duty (MOD), as assigned. * Support community and promotional special events as needed. * Actively participate in training sessions and designated meetings. Desired Skills & Experience: * High School diploma or equivalent required. College coursework preferred. * Current CPR and First Aid certifications. * Ability to work with participants of varying experience and skill levels. * Knowledge of fitness trends, fitness training, Foundation of Strength and Conditioning, Group Exercise, and Listen First. * Knowledgeable of the Principles of Member Health & Wellness. * Excellent hospitality, interpersonal, and communication skills.
