The Jamaica YMCA is seeking a Mechanic who, under the direct supervision of the Property Manager, will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems at the YMCA, as well as its off-sites. They will perform building repair, maintenance, and cosmetic upgrades as directed. The Mechanic will also clean and maintain the inside and outside of the YMCA and its off-sites, including, but not limited to, the sidewalks, hallways, stairways, bathrooms, shower rooms, offices, and all program areas. Key Responsibilities: * Perform repairs and preventive maintenance in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and swimming pool equipment (where applicable). * Perform building construction work as directed by branch leadership. * Clean all bathrooms, classrooms, locker rooms, Fitness Center, Free Weight Room, offices, Gymnasium, and all other spaces within the branch. * Store all deliveries, move furniture, set up and break down rooms, and remove snow. * Strip and wax the floors and shampoo rugs as needed. * Inform the Property Manager of all building issues. * Responsible for painting when assigned. * Follow the standards of the DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments. * Other duties as assigned. Desired Skills & Experience: * High School Diploma or equivalent required. * Three (3) to five (5) years of maintenance and building construction work experience and progressive responsibility. * Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with a basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment. * Knowledge of the use of mechanical test equipment. * Must have the ability to maintain and adjust controls, systems, preventative maintenance, and repair. * Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use (MSOS). * Maintain FDNY, DOB, and DOH logbooks as required. * Must be able to maintain the pool, including reading, repairing, and maintaining. * Current Fire Safety Director certification or must pass the Fire Safety Director Certification within one (1) year of attaining the position. * Obtain Building Certification within three (3) months of attaining the position. * Must obtain S12, S13, and C42 Pool Certifications within one (1) year of attaining the position. Subject to mid-year and annual review. * Must be able to work flexible hours as well as overnight. Must be on call 24/7 when the Property Manager is not on-site. Key Responsibilities: * Provide outstanding hospitality to all members and guests. * Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and ownership of the YMCA. * Assist in the scheduling, maintenance, and management of facility and equipment in partnership with the branch’s maintenance department. * Assist with the management of programs to maximize member satisfaction, revenue, and compliance with the YMCA standards. * Assist with recruiting, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating program staff. * Execute administrative duties, i.e., tracking, reports, schedules, equipment, supplies, and payroll. * Assist in the development, control, and tracking of departmental budget in accordance with the branch and Association guidelines. * Research, facilitate, and build quality programs that provide member satisfaction. * Set annual priority objectives-improve service, based on annual staff and customer evaluation/feedback. * Serve as a point of contact for all Healthy Lifestyles & Sports staff. * Track and ensure that staff certifications are current and on file. * Maintain required certifications, which are tracked in Club Connect. * Attend current hospitality training within ninety (90) days of hire. * Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate action in emergency situations. * Serve as a branch Manager on Duty (MOD), as assigned. * Support community and promotional special events as needed. * Actively participate in training sessions and designated meetings. Desired Skills & Experience: * High School diploma or equivalent required. College coursework preferred. * Current CPR and First Aid certifications. * Ability to work with participants of varying experience and skill levels. * Knowledge of fitness trends, fitness training, Foundation of Strength and Conditioning, Group Exercise, and Listen First. * Knowledgeable of the Principles of Member Health & Wellness. * Excellent hospitality, interpersonal, and communication skills. Job DescriptionDescription: POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Camp Director, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for the safety of campers, and assist in implementing high quality camp programming. As a member of the Camp staff, the Program Coordinator shall design and implement activities tailored to the skills and interests of each age group. Daily work will consist of working with other counselors to bring about quality programming in a variety of program areas. Activities should nurture creativity, cooperation, skill and self-esteem. YMCA of Greater Bergen County operates traditional day and resident camps in Harriman State Park, NY, along Lake Kanawauke, providing a beautiful natural setting. The camp is 45 minutes from Hackensack, where our YMCA is located; all counselors and campers are bused to camp from the YMCA. Camp activities include swimming, boating, fishing, arts & crafts, sports & games, archery, nature, hiking, rock climbing, and challenge/low ropes course. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Ensure, above all else, campers are safe and well supervised., • Plan, setup and deliver a variety of program activities, theme days, and family nights, in conjunction with the Specialists and Counselors that keep children’s interests high; assist in family nights and special events as needed., • Consistently greet campers and parents with a smile and treat them with enthusiasm., • Connect with staff, campers and parents, making all feel welcome and included., • Review regularly with Camp Director/ Assistant Director all concerns, priorities, progress, problems, reports and all matters dealing with camp and programs., • Oversee, effectively monitor and follow all safety guidelines associated with camp and all program areas., • Identify and report maintenance concerns in a timely fashion., • Work with Camp Director and other leadership to develop consistent communication practices and program initiatives., • Work in cooperation with all staff and other programs on the property., • Attend all staff meetings, special events and training events as scheduled., • Must attend and complete all required trainings., • At all times, uphold camp safety standards. Maintain constant face counts. Will understand and practice risk management and disaster policies and procedures., • Help maintain group control and facilitate lunchtime activities., • Follow all YMCA, ACA, and NJ Licensing standards and procedures to ensure the safest and best quality camp and to help maintain ACA accreditation., • Secure and submit all accident reports, special plans, schedule changes, and evaluations to Camp Director when appropriate., • Report all immediate concerns to Camp Director or nearest supervisor., • Always maintain a professional demeanor, as you are a representative of the YMCA., • Wear Camp T-shirt daily., • Maintain positive attitude, responsibility and self-motivation. Maintain inventory & care for all designated waterfront activities and rescue equipment. Ensure all surrounding areas of the waterfront area kept clean and orderly. Review regularly with Camp Director all concerns, priorities, progress, and reports regarding camp and programs. Create, maintain and submit all reports, inventory and evaluations as required. Maintain accurate records. Report waterfront maintenance concerns in a timely fashion. Work in cooperation with all staff and other programs on the property. Attend all staff meetings and training events as scheduled. DIRECT REPORTS:Lifeguards and CIT’s BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY:N/A Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: At least 21 years of age. Minimum three-year’s experience in Waterfront, and professional rescuer. Minimum three years lifeguard experience. Experience in supervision. Ability to create lesson plans. Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, WSI and Waterfront certifications. First Aid & CPR for Professional rescuer certifications.
