We are looking for a Database Administrator (PostgreSQL) to join our team in Madrid (hybrid model), reporting directly to the Solutions Engineering Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the performance, reliability, and scalability of our database systems. This position combines deep PostgreSQL expertise with modern DevOps and Site Reliability practices, including automation, observability, and continuous improvement. You will play a key role in supporting high-availability systems and optimizing critical platforms within our technology ecosystem. Key Job Responsibilities • Design, implement, and maintain high-performance PostgreSQL databases, • Optimize queries, indexing, partitioning, and caching strategies for scalability, • Monitor database health, performance, and availability; proactively resolve issues, • Manage backup, restore, replication, clustering, and disaster recovery procedures, • Collaborate with development teams to review schemas, queries, and migrations, • Ensure data integrity, security, and uptime across environments, • Implement database security controls and access management, • Build and maintain observability systems (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting), • Develop automation tools and scripts to reduce manual tasks, • Collaborate in infrastructure management using Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform or similar), • Support capacity planning, performance testing, and scalability strategies, • Contribute to system architecture improvements for reliability and efficiency, • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime What we expect from you • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience), • +5 years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in production environments, • Fluent English (the role involves daily communication in both English and Spanish), • Hands-on experience with cloud environments (preferably AWS RDS/Aurora), • Strong expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and database architecture, • Experience with replication, clustering, partitioning, and HA/DR solutions, • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK), • Solid knowledge of Linux systems and networking fundamentals, • Experience in automation and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python), • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles (e.g., Terraform or similar), • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, • Experience in troubleshooting, incident management, and performance optimization, • Knowledge of database security, compliance, and access control management, • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR), • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams Nice to have • Experience with eSIM / telecom environments, • Certifications in AWS or other cloud platforms What do we offer? • Join Valid and work on technological and innovative projects within multicultural and multidisciplinary teams., • Flexibility: flexible working hours and hybrid work options to promote work-life balance., • Well-being: private medical insurance and life insurance., • Need a break?
