Overview We’re looking for an experienced Practice Bookkeeper to join our growing and friendly team. We work with a wide range of local SMEs — trades, manufacturers, driving instructors, service businesses — and we pride ourselves on being accurate, responsive, and genuinely supportive to our clients. Details What you’ll be doing • Managing your own portfolio of bookkeeping clients, • Daily/weekly/monthly bookkeeping in Xero (non-negotiable), • Bank reconciliations, journals, prepayments/accruals, CIS, VAT returns, • Payroll experience beneficial (BrightPay), • Supporting team members where needed, • Communicating with clients in a clear, friendly, and patient way, • Ensuring all work is completed accurately and on time, • Working within our established systems and helping to improve them as we grow What we’re looking for Essential: • Minimum AAT Level 3 or ICB Level 3 (or equivalent), • Experience working in a bookkeeping or accountancy practice, • Strong practical experience with Xero, • Confident handling end-to-end bookkeeping, • A good communicator who builds great relationships, • Someone who is organised, dependable, and takes pride in getting things right Beneficial: • Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff, • Knowledge of CIS, • Experience with Dext, Apron, BrightPay, or similar tools -Cash flow and report preparation Who this role is perfect for: • Someone who enjoys hands-on bookkeeping rather than corporate accounting, • Someone who likes a friendly, supportive team environment, • Someone who can work independently but follows established processes, • Someone who enjoys helping SMEs and making a real difference to their businesses This may not be the right fit for someone used to a large, highly formal practice environment or someone looking for a senior tax or advisory-focused role.
