About the role This is a really hands-on, rewarding role where youll be supporting five people (four men and one woman, aged 30s60s) to live life their way, in a home right by Chard Reservoir. Each person is unique, with a mix of learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy and sensory processing needs. Some people communicate without words, so youll use tools like PECS, signing, assistive technology and objects of reference to understand and connect with them Day to day, its all about being present, responsive and genuinely caring. Youll support with full personal care (including catheter care) and help people stay safe if theyre feeling distressed, always taking a calm, understanding approach. Life here is busy, fun and very person-led. People love getting out and about whether thats going for walks, swimming, bowling or popping out for snacks or fish and chips. At home, theres lots of sensory play, ball games, time in the garden and just good banter and connection. Shifts - 7am - 2pm, 2pm - 10pm and alternate weekends. About you To thrive as a Support Worker in this home, you will be someone who is compassionate, reliable, and genuinely motivated to make a positive difference in peoples lives. You dont need previous experience in social care, but you do need the right values, the willingness to learn, and the confidence to support individuals to live the life they choose. Youll bring strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with the people you support, their families, and your colleagues. A good Support Worker here is patient, calm under pressure, and able to adapt to different situations with empathy and professionalism. Youll also be proactive, observant, and comfortable encouraging people to develop their independence and try new things. Basic IT skills are important, as youll use digital systems for recording notes, completing training, and staying connected as part of the team. Youll show a commitment to your own learning and development, embracing the training we provide to ensure you feel confident and equipped in your role. Most importantly, youll be someone who brings positivity, kindness, and respect to every interaction, helping create a safe, supportive, and happy environment for the people who live here.
