Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor Location: London (hybrid working available) Sector: Energy & Utilities Infrastructure Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time Overview This role offers the opportunity to support and lead the commercial delivery of critical energy and utilities infrastructure projects. Whether you’re a seasoned Quantity Surveyor or operating at Senior level, you’ll bring robust cost management skills, an understanding of infrastructure delivery, and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Projects span the regulated utilities space - covering water, power, fibre, and gas - and often involve complex stakeholder environments, tight urban constraints, and increasing scrutiny around value for money. Key Responsibilities Pre-Contract and Cost Planning • Develop detailed cost plans, feasibility studies, and budgets, • Provide benchmarking analysis and value engineering input, • Deliver cost advice aligned with evolving design and project objectives Procurement and Tendering • Produce bills of quantities, pricing schedules, and tender documentation, • Manage end-to-end tender processes, including evaluation and negotiations, • Advise on suitable procurement and contract strategies Post-Contract Commercial Management • Administer valuations, process payments, and manage change control, • Prepare and present cost reports, forecasts, and financial statements, • Negotiate variations, claims, and final accounts Client and Team Collaboration • Attend client meetings and present commercial updates, • Engage with project managers, designers, and engineers to ensure aligned delivery, • Maintain strong client relationships with a focus on long-term outcomes Risk and Compliance • Identify and advise on commercial and contractual risks, • Ensure adherence to NEC contracts, internal procedures, and statutory regulations, • Contribute to dispute avoidance and resolution processes Candidate Profile Essential Skills and Experience • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline, • Solid understanding of NEC contracts and infrastructure procurement, • Proficient in software tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CostX, • Demonstrated experience delivering infrastructure projects within regulated environments (water, gas, fibre, power), • Ability to work across multiple projects and deadlines Desirable Attributes • Chartered or working towards RICS accreditation, • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management capability, • Familiarity with UK SHEQ and regulatory requirements in infrastructure, • Commercial insight into large-scale infrastructure funding and delivery models Work Environment This is a hybrid role with a London base, incorporating flexibility across client sites, home, and office working. Occasional travel within the Southeast and nationally may be required depending on project needs.
