Position Title: NDT Technician (Welding Biased) / Welding Co-Ordinator Reports to: Lead Quality Engineer - Welding & NDT Hours of work or Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours Monday to Friday Travel Requirements: Domestic: 5% International: 0% Education/Degree(s): Minimum: CSWIP 3.1, PCN/ISO 9712 Level 2 Qualified in required methods of NDT. Preferred: IWS (International Welding Specialist). Position Description The Quality and BI Team are a multi-discipline team providing continual quality planning, quality assurance, quality control and continuous improvement through continual product and process verification, development of processes, procedures and implementation of systems that ensure the products and processes fulfil quality standards, meet safety regulations, and satisfy customer and contractual requirements. Working as a direct report to the Lead Quality Engineer for Welding & NDT alongside the Non-destructive testing team, the Welding Co-ordinator / NDT Technician is responsible for overseeing Quality control of welding activities, welding inspection and welding relating processes whilst also supporting NDT for inspecting and evaluating materials, components, and structures for defects or flaws using various testing methods. Daily activities will be conducted in accordance with our internal quality management system procedures and processes in line with ISO 9001:2015. Core Duties - Working in a Quality function supporting a proactive and collaborative project working environment, providing governance in relation to Quality Management whilst supporting project deliveries. - Provide governance and quality control of welding, fabrication, and-non-destructive testing activities whilst providing oversight. - Provide daily quality control of the internal welding and fabrication of Carbon Steel, Copper Nickel and Stainless-Steel piping systems alongside the welding team leader. - Conduct visual inspection of welding quality including dimensional verification to international, defence standards or other specifications. - Auditing of fabrication and welding (Heavy section platework and complex pipe systems), welding processes (TIG, MAG, FCAW, MCAW), welding procedures (WPS, WPQR), and in process welding activities. - Producing Quality alerts, toolbox talks, inspection sheets or similar as required. - Review of supplier MRB's for Welding documentation. - Perform visual inspection (VI) of Forgings, Machined Components, and Weldments. - Perform Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) of Forgings, Machined Components, and Weldments. - Perform Dye penetrant inspection (DPI) of Forgings, Machined Components, Weldments and Castings. - Analysing inspection results, identifying potential flaws, interpreting standard, and documenting findings according to established procedures. - Raising non-conformance reports in accordance with our non-conformance management procedure. - Support internal meetings, project review meetings, supplier meetings, and customer meetings providing regular quality updates alongside the lead quality engineer, and support on quality function related issues. Functional Knowledge Required: - Minimum, experience in ISO 9001:2015 or equivalent Management systems, - Apprenticeship in related field of study (Welding, NDT or equivalent), demonstrated experience in a discipline of all or some of the following - Welding, welding co-ordinator, welding inspection, - Experience of working in an Engineering environment, - CSWIP Level 3.1 (Minimum) - Weldments, - PCN Level 2 (Minimum), Sector 6, Method 22 - DPI (Weldments), - PCN Level 2 (Minimum), Sector 2, Method 21 - MPI (Pre and in-service inspection), - Knowledge of welding processes (TIG, MAG, FCAW, MCAW), - Able to interpret complex fabrication drawings and welding symbols, - Familiar with BS EN ISO 15614-1, BS EN ISO 15614-6 (Welding procedure qualification), - Familiar with BS EN ISO 9606-1 (Welder qualification), - Able to interpret and review supplier WPQR, WPS, welder qualifications and welding documents, - Able to conduct welder & quality audits both internally and at suppliers, - To be able to conduct visual welding inspections to BS EN ISO 5817 or equivalent, - Experience preparing detailed reports outlining inspection findings, characterising defects and interpreting specifications and standards. Desired: - PCN Level 2 (Minimum), Sector 6, Method 24 - UT (Weldments), - PCN Level 2 (Minimum), Sector 2, Method 22 - DPI (Pre and in-service inspection), - ISO 9001:2015 Internal auditor trained, - Able to write a WPS (Welding procedure specification) from a WPQR to BSEN ISO 15609, - Manual Handling training and experience, - Lifting and slinging training and experience. Business Expertise - Understanding of ISO 9001 Quality management systems and experience or knowledge of other types of national and internal standards i.e., ISO, EN, BSI, Lloyds Rules, Defence Standards, and others. - Experienced in working in a manufacturing, shopfloor and heavy engineering environment. - Familiarity of machined and welded components i.e., fabricated structures, pipework, and interrelated systems, including the manufacturing and assembly processes i.e., Machining, welding, Non-destructive testing. - Familiarity of interpretation of engineering standards, specifications and technical requirements in mechanical engineering and defence related industries. - Familiar of interpretation of written standards for welding and non-destructive testing. - Product knowledge training will be provided through the in-process training with peers, and on the job training (learning from experience). Leadership - Monitor the completion of tasks, be self-sufficient to complete tasks, ensure positive and proactive performance and record information on appropriate systems, - Supporting the Lead quality engineer as point of contact in relation to welding co-ordination and Non-destructive testing activities for all value stream customers, or other interested parties for regular meetings, or quality deliverables as required, - Ability to meticulously inspect materials and identify even minor defects. Problem Solving - Able to identify and characterise defects in material relating to manufacturing and welding processes. - Able to interpret test data and make accurate assessments, - Able to interpret standards, specifications and acceptance criteria, - Able to identify the causal factors and root cause of defects. Interpersonal Skills - Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance. - Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the Quality strategy. - Liaise with suppliers to resolve material quality issues. - Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, 3rd parties, suppliers, and other service providers. - Communicate with personnel at all levels, internally and externally to the Company, in relation to metallurgical and heat treatment quality.
