Medical Director & Person Responsible - Fertility Services A respected fertility organisation is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Medical Director & Person Responsible to lead clinical operations at a growing assisted reproduction centre. This role is ideal for a senior clinician who is passionate about patient care, regulation, research, and driving service excellence. About the Role As Medical Director, you will oversee clinical governance, maintain the highest standards of care, and support the continued growth and performance of the clinic. You will work closely with the senior leadership team to develop strategy, support business objectives, and ensure that clinical services operate safely and efficiently. The position combines hands-on clinical work with leadership, mentoring, regulatory responsibility and service development. Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership Carry out consultations, scanning, egg collections, embryo transfers, IUIs and related reproductive procedures. Participate in the on-call and weekend rota for urgent clinical matters. Perform investigations including saline sonography, HyCoSy and endometrial biopsies. Maintain Advanced Life Support certification. Work with operations leads to ensure clinical rotas and patient flow are well-managed. Team & Performance Management Lead, support and mentor the clinical team to ensure high standards and strong collaboration. Oversee performance management, objective setting and clinical development. Promote open communication and a professional, patient-centred culture. Strategic Planning & Service Delivery Contribute to strategy discussions, planning and resource allocation with senior management. Support coordination between the main clinic and satellite sites. Assist with external contract work, including NHS partnership activities. Ensure resources are used effectively to support clinical and operational goals. Operational Oversight & Compliance Support the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care across the service. Recruit and develop future medical staff. Implement improvements to patient pathways, systems and clinical processes. Lead clinical decision-making for situations not covered by standard procedures. Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies. Performance Monitoring Analyse clinical data, KPIs and outcomes to identify areas for improvement. Contribute to Medical Director meetings, governance reviews and clinical performance discussions. Produce and present reports, action plans and quality improvement proposals. Cross-Functional Collaboration Maintain strong working relationships across departments and with external partners. Liaise with referring clinicians, NHS partners, and contracted service providers. Support teaching, learning and academic collaborations where relevant. Research & Continuous Improvement Participate in planning and delivery of clinical research within regulatory frameworks. Identify opportunities for innovation and service development. Support quality management processes and regulatory inspections (e.g., ISO, HFEA). Person Responsible (PR) Duties Ensure full compliance with all fertility legislation and guidance. Oversee staff training and readiness for regulatory inspections. Manage submission of required data, documentation and fees to the regulator. Provide leadership in ethical and objective decision-making. Requirements Essential Medical degree and GMC Registration. Subspecialty training in reproductive medicine. Minimum 5 years experience in a large fertility centre. Strong understanding of fertility legislation, governance and the Code of Practice. Knowledge of the biological and scientific principles underlying assisted reproduction. Experience within multidisciplinary clinical teams. Familiarity with clinical quality assurance and performance monitoring. Desirable Strong network within the fertility sector. Academic or teaching experience. Skills & Attributes Strong analytical and data interpretation skills. Excellent communication across all levels of the organisation. Organised, adaptable and comfortable managing varied priorities. Team-orientated leadership style with a patient-focused approach. Resilient, professional, and able to maintain high standards under pressure.
