Primary School Teacher with Subject Leadership Primary School Teacher & Subject Leader (e.g., English, Maths, Science, Computing) Reports To Phase Leader / Head of Year / Senior Leadership Team / Headteacher Salary MPS/UPS + TLR (Teaching and Learning Responsibility) allowance Job Purpose To provide high-quality teaching for pupils within Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 while leading a core subject across the school. The role involves developing and implementing a subject curriculum, supporting colleagues, and raising standards across the school. The teacher will also contribute to whole-school improvement through curriculum planning, assessment, and monitoring. Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Learning • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons in line with the National Curriculum., • Maintain high standards of teaching, learning, and pupil achievement within your classroom., • Use assessment data effectively to monitor progress and adapt teaching strategies., • Promote a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment., • Set high expectations for behaviour and learning, modelling excellent practice.Subject Leadership, • Develop, implement, and review the school’s policy and curriculum for the subject area., • Monitor teaching and learning standards across the subject, including lesson observations and book scrutiny., • Lead moderation of assessment within the subject area to ensure consistency and accuracy., • Support colleagues in implementing effective teaching strategies for the subject., • Organise and deliver subject-specific training and CPD for staff., • Keep up to date with national developments, research, and best practice in the subject., • Audit and manage resources for the subject area effectively.Assessment and Reporting, • Track pupil progress in your subject area and use data to inform action plans., • Produce reports for SLT, governors, and parents regarding standards, achievements, and areas for improvement., • Contribute to whole-school assessment, reporting, and accountability processes.Pastoral and Safeguarding, • Promote pupils’ well-being and personal development., • Implement the school’s safeguarding and behaviour policies effectively., • Support pupils’ social, emotional, and learning needs within the classroom and school environment.Professional Development and Collaboration, • Work collaboratively with colleagues across phases and subjects., • Mentor and support colleagues in teaching and subject-specific practices., • Engage in CPD to develop leadership, curriculum expertise, and teaching practice., • Contribute to school improvement initiatives and whole-school strategic planning.Parental and Community Engagement, • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupils’ progress and achievements., • Promote parental engagement in learning, particularly in your subject area., • Represent the school professionally in meetings, community events, and partnerships.Person SpecificationEssential Qualifications, • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), • Degree or equivalent qualificationDesirable Qualifications, • Relevant subject leadership training (e.g., TLR qualification), • Master’s degree or postgraduate study in education or subject specialismExperience and Knowledge, • Successful classroom teaching experience in primary education (Key Stage 1 or 2), • Experience leading or coordinating a subject area across a school, • Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum and assessment frameworks, • Understanding of SEND, EAL, and inclusive practice, • Ability to analyse and interpret pupil data to raise standardsSkills and Attributes, • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills, • Ability to inspire and motivate pupils and staff, • Collaborative, flexible, and solution-focused approach, • Commitment to high standards of teaching, learning, and pupil achievement, • Enthusiasm for professional development and continuous school improvementSafeguarding Statement The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
