An opportunity has arisen within our Prevention section for a Home Fire Safety Advisor based at Barnsley Fire Station, Doncaster Fire Station and Sheffield/Rotherham Fire stations in South Yorkshire. Home Fire Safety Advisors Location: Barnsley Station S70 or Doncaster Station DN2 or Sheffield Parkway Station S9 / Rotherham Station S65 Contract(s): Permanent Salary: £28,598 - £31,022 per annum (£14,299 - £15,511 per annum actual for 0.5 FTE or £16,873 - £18,303 per annum actual for 0.59 FTE) (Grade 5) *To increase subject to national pay award negotiations for 2026. Roles: • 1 x Permanent, Full-time 37 hours per week in Barnsley S70 Monday to Thursday: 08:30 - 16:30 Friday: 08:30 - 16:00, • 1 x Permanent, Part-time 0.5 FTE in Doncaster DN2 Rolling fortnightly pattern - Week 1: Monday and Tuesday and Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, • 1 x Permanent, Part-time 0.59 FTE in Sheffield S9 / Rotherham S65 Fixed working pattern: Monday, Tuesday and Friday. This is a vital frontline role focused on safeguarding and protecting vulnerable individuals through the delivery of targeted, high quality home safety interventions across South Yorkshire. Home Fire Safety Advisors work directly with individuals, families and communities to identify and reduce fire risk, promote safer behaviours, and ensure appropriate support is in place for those most at risk of harm or neglect. The role involves planning and delivering high risk Home Fire Safety Visits, managing single agency cases, and working closely with partner organisations to support individuals with complex needs. You will be responsible for accurately recording case activity, making safeguarding referrals where required, and escalating complex cases to the Senior Home Fire Safety Advisor in line with organisational procedures. You will regularly engage with vulnerable individuals, requiring strong interpersonal skills, professional judgement and the ability to work with empathy and resilience. The role includes partnership working with local authorities, health services, voluntary organisations and other agencies to ensure joined up, effective interventions. Home Fire Safety Advisors also support wider prevention activity, including community engagement events and campaigns, contributing to the delivery of prevention priorities and initiatives. This role requires individuals who can work with a high degree of autonomy, manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records, while also working collaboratively as part of a wider Prevention team. Participation in clinical supervision and reflective practice is an important element of the role, supporting wellbeing and professional development when working with potentially traumatic safeguarding cases. N.B. To support the effective delivery of community safety activities, post holders will be required to work up to 6 evenings and 10 weekend days per year.
