World Class Defence Organisation is currently looking to recruit a Technical Author subcontractor on an initial 12 month contract. The role will be predominately working remotely from home. Rate: £43.00 per hour Overtime Rate: Hours worked over the standard 37 hours per week, will be paid at ‘time and a quarter’ Location: Stevenage Hybrid / Remote working: The role will be 2 or 4 days per month in the office and the rest remote. Technical Author Job Description: To write technical documentation in Standard Generalised Mark-up Language (SGML), Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) and traditional formats for the Company's products in accordance with individual contractual requirements To enable safe and effective operation and repair of the equipment. The role covers the whole product lifecycle through design, development and in-service support. Skillset/experience required: Experienced in the production of technical documentation with a detailed knowledge of MoD publication standards ASD S1000D and AESP. Ideally qualified to HND/HNC or equivalent level in an engineering related subject or ex forces senior technician. Knowledge of SGML editing software (Arbortext Epic), Common Source Data Bases (CSDB for S1000D) and Desktop Publishing systems. Ability to communicate effectively with ILS Managers and Design Engineers. Ability to work independently, taking ownership for packages of work in terms of scheduling and status reporting in order to meet Company and Customer expectations. Demonstrate a writing ability for new, complex and original work. Able to support more than one project at a time. Additional info; S1000D Compliance & experience. Working in Data Module Format. Use of STE. Experience with Abortext Editor, Framemaker authoring software’s or other XML/SGML editing software. Effective communicator as role is dual remote and onsite working. The role also interacts with multiple engineering depts. – ILS, LSA, Commercial etc. A qualification in Electrical or Mechanical engineering demonstrated with few years of experience. HNC/HND. Degree Level is also acceptable but not a requirement. Experience in end-to-end amendment/production of Technical Documentation to Operate and Maintain equipment. Experience in a Maintenance or problem/fault finding and correction is a bonus but not essential
