Head of Physical Education (PE) Location: Northamptonshire Contract: Permanent, Full-Time Salary: Leadership Scale (dependent on experience) Start Date: September 2026 About the Role Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a high-performing and ambitious secondary school in Northamptonshire to recruit an exceptional Head of Physical Education. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher or current middle leader ready to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership of the PE department, driving high standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum, inspiring both students and staff, and creating a culture of high expectations, engagement, and success across all key stages. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management Lead, manage, and develop the PE department to ensure outstanding provision Monitor teaching quality and student outcomes, driving continuous improvement Analyse performance data to identify strengths and areas for development Create and implement a clear departmental improvement plan aligned with whole-school priorities Manage departmental resources and budget effectively Line manage, support, and performance manage teaching staff Teaching & Learning Deliver and model outstanding teaching practice Design a broad, inclusive, and engaging PE curriculum across Key Stages 3–5 Ensure lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of all learners Provide both academic and vocational pathways to support student progression Inspire a love of physical activity and promote healthy lifestyles Monitoring & Achievement Set and track ambitious targets for student attainment and progress Implement strategies to support all students in achieving their full potential Maintain rigorous quality assurance processes across the department Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation and improvement planning Staff Development & Collaboration Lead CPD within the department, coaching and mentoring staff Support trainee and early career teachers Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture Work closely with senior leaders to deliver whole-school priorities Wider Contribution Build positive relationships with students, staff, and external partners Promote high standards of behaviour, engagement, and participation Contribute to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular sport About the School Our partner school is an innovative and forward-thinking 11–18 secondary setting with a strong reputation for academic success and student development.
