Program Overview The CAMBA Education Center (CEC) offers ESOL classes primarily to individuals who are at least 16 years old, who are not enrolled or required to be enrolled in the New York City public school system, and who live or work in the Flatbush/East Flatbush communities of Brooklyn, New York. Each year, over 1,000 people from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, and Latin America enroll in our ESOL classes. In general, we provide our English learners with the type of educational, case management, career counseling, and technical services that can help them realize their family, educational, employment, and/or other personal goals. Position: Part-Time English Instructor Reports To: Program Director Location: 10 Snyder Avenue, 955 Flatbush Avenue, 3rd Floor, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11226. What The Part-Time English Instructor Does: Services are offered on site and in person. Through a thematic and communicative approach, CAMBA’s ESOL classes aim to help immigrants develop and enhance the listening, speaking, reading, writing, numeracy, and workplace skills they need to become employed, to get better jobs, and to communicate effectively in their daily life activities. The person filling this position is expected, under general direction, to: (1) research and develop instructional materials and lesson plans; and, (2) instruct adults in academic and/or nonacademic subjects; including the following: • Arrive at work on time regularly., • Research new level appropriate materials and methods of instruction to keep lessons current and relevant., • Teach students at their respective levels and provide instruction sequentially so that class participants can make standard educational gains (advancing at least one class level higher based on the National Reporting System (NRS) standards) within three months., • Design daily lesson plans to meet core course objectives., • Prepare and distribute instructional materials for classroom/homework use., • Provide classroom instruction on the subject of the course., • Manage the classroom effectively to maximize student learning., • Review and discuss at-home assignments in class., • Help students identify and utilize supplemental media resources., • Prepare, distribute, and grade periodic written assessments of students’ progress., • Refer students to the program case manager if they exhibit barriers in achieving their personal goals (e.g., child daycare needs, possible health/housing issues, etc.)., • Maintain daily student attendance records., • Contact each student by phone, text, and/or email in the event of a class scheduling change and/or after any student is absent from class for at least two consecutive days., • Prepare reports on students’ attendance and progress, as required., • Implement an action plan to improve student class attendance when the rate of overall attendance falls below 70% during a cycle/quarter., • Maintain and update students' individual learning plans and learning portfolios., • Organize and maintain class area, including equipment and materials., • Coordinate with students’ assigned case manager regarding next steps in progress toward their goals, as needed., • Collaborate with appropriate case managers to help students achieve goals such as entering a training program, getting a job, becoming U.S. residents/citizens, earning a High School Equivalency diploma, or entering college., • Attend administration/norming workshops on BEST Plus or BEST Literacy as required., • Attend staff meetings and onsite professional development sessions when scheduled., • Every fiscal year, attend up to 20 hours of professional development training offered by the program’s approved provider of technical assistance [This may be the Department of Youth & Community Development, the Literacy Assistance Center, or the New York City Regional Adult Education Network.]., • Read professional publications regularly to stay current with new teaching methods., • Submit required weekly attendance and service reports. Job Description Summary Streetwork Project is the oldest street outreach program for homeless and street-involved youth in New York City. The program has grown from its beginnings in 1984 as a storefront project to encompass both outreach and comprehensive harm reduction services. The core service is long-term, one-on-one counseling, which is offered in a non-judgmental and holistic manner utilizing a harm reduction approach that focuses on building trust, fostering self-esteem, exploring options and choices, and empowering youth to change their high-risk behaviors. As part of our continuum of services we operate an emergency housing program for homeless youth in NYC, Streetwork Overnight. The Overnight is a 24 bed facility for youth ages 16-20. It is open from 7 pm to 10 am 7 days a week. Casual Youth Advocates work overnight hours to support the youth while they are in our crisis shelter. As part of our continuum of services, we also provide overnight outreach in teams of two seven nights a week (7 pm to 3 am), throughout the five boroughs of New York City. CJA is the City's main pretrial services agency, combining operations, pilot projects, and research under one roof. Job Description POSITION SUMMARY City Parks Education has been offering interdisciplinary environmental education programs in schools and parks since 1992. The Coastal Classroom summer program focuses on coastal ecology, water quality, urban waterfront restoration and preservation on the NYC waterfront, with sites in Hallets Cove in Astoria and Kaiser Park in Coney Island. Coastal Classroom will provide summer programming for up to 30 middle school students at each of the 2 locations, using site-specific inquiry-based lessons to stimulate meaningful learning experiences in their own communities. Between June and August, the Coastal Classroom summer program will engage middle school students in coastal ecology and maritime training, through instruction as well as trips to coastal areas and visits to organizations performing similar work. CPF has developed this internship opportunity for ambitious 11th or 12th grade high school students to gain hands-on experience and explore the environmental education sector, while helping to promote stewardship of our waterways and coastal areas. Selected interns will gain valuable work experience, putting their skills to use while expanding their knowledge of the field. The Coastal Classroom internship is an exciting opportunity. Job Description The Internship and Career Coordinator works with the Good Shepherd Services (GSS) team, grounded in the mission and vision of the GSS agency, and in collaboration with the Department of Education (DOE) to develop, implement, and connect our students, to an internship experience that aims to empower and prepare them for life after high school. Through implementation of a range of individual and group job readiness and career exploration and development activities and experiences, the ICC works with students to prepare for the world of work, identify career interests and connect them to opportunities that facilitate employment. West Brooklyn Community High School is a partnership transfer high school committed to supporting students to obtain a high school diploma using a strength based and trauma informed approach. Our students are overaged and under credited, aged 16-21 years old, and were not successful in their previous school environments due to various factors and circumstances. Our work is grounded in building strong relationships with our students and empowering them through our everyday practice, instilling the tools and skills they will need to achieve personal, academic and post secondary success. Reports To: Program Director Location: 1053 41st St, Brooklyn, NY, 11219 Hours: 35 Hours/Week; 8-4pm / Non-Exempt Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 Major Duties: * Outreach to potential internship providers and employers to identify and secure full, part time and summer internship and employment opportunities for students of WBCHS. * Create and maintain internship opportunities based on student interests, available local opportunities and referrals. * Match and place participants into placements developed and track their progress through 1:1 sessions, mid year and end of year evaluations. * Oversee placement and monitoring of participants at internship/job sites and obtain employer feedback. * Develop curriculum and facilitate weekly seminar groups that meet once weekly for students in internship placements. * Identify, develop and utilize tools appropriate to provide accurate assessment of participants' work readiness and skill development. * Conduct administrative tasks for student interns such as onboarding them into the payroll system, track, input and manage student timesheet and hours. * Onboard and orientate new student interns regarding internship practices, policies and procedures. * Collaborate with students’ Advocate Counselor to ensure alignment in supporting students through their social- emotional and academic progress and goals to fulfill graduation requirements. * Collaborate with the Director of Career Connections and Economic Mobility Specialist of WBCHS to develop and implement in-house work based learning opportunities for participants in the form of job shadowing, certification programs and internships and related work based learning activities and experiences to promote career exploration. * Work with the Director of Career Connections and Economic Mobility Specialist to connect seniors to a solid post secondary plan. * Liaison with the post-secondary team on topics related to job and career readiness and exploration skills/competency development (i.e., resume writing, interviewing skills, completing job applications). * Attend division wide meetings with Internship Coordinators and Economic Mobility Specialists in the division * Ensure timely completion of Salesforce documentation, other documentation of work, and statistics, and assist DOE to ensure accuracy of student records. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree required. * Bilingual Spanish preferred. * Experience working with adolescents in employment or vocational field in 1:1 and group sessions. * Strong organizational, teamwork, verbal and written communication skills. * Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. * Ability to travel to GSS Program Sites throughout Brooklyn * Ability to work weekends, including overnight when necessary. * Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and youth development perspective.
