Position: Operations Manager - Emeryville Department: Operations Location: Emeryville, CA Reports To: Director of Operations FLSA Status: EXEMPT, 8810 Job Overview: Our operations fulfillment process has two distinct steps - Roasting and Production. The Operations Manager leads and is accountable for the entire manufacturing process in our roastery. The role is responsible for planning and the execution of the roasting, production, and fulfillment operations for the Emeryville facility to meet the daily business demands. This person will work closely across the various functions of the organization to ensure that Emeryville operations are prepared to support the needs of the various stakeholders. This position is accountable for inventory control, personnel management, and budgeting. They will help to resolve issues, set goals, create accountability, and provide mentorship across the teams. This person is resourceful, communicative, proficient with technology, and able to share a vision for how we will meet our long-term goals with short-term actions. This position is mostly strategic and administrational, managing the manufacturing process accountability to the other resources in the company by creating a budget, growth forecast, and capacity thresholds. They enjoy working on a team as well as working cross-functionally, can inspire and foster leadership, and they constantly strive to improve. The ideal candidate has extensive experience leading people, managing teams, and inventory, in a warehouse or commercial manufacturing facility. Job Duties: • Oversight of all roasting and production responsibilities, • Managing all manufacturing operations in our Emeryville facility, • Generating and implementing policies, procedures and processes in the Emeryville roastery, • Planning appropriately for scaling and growth, including proactive staffing, • Motivating and inspiring an engaged team, • Understanding the current & future business needs of the operations, and ensuring plans are in place to deliver, • Working with the team to identify and solve concerns, • Managing Emeryville operations budget and growth forecast, • Managing all materials vendor relationships, • Managing all Emeryville operations regulatory compliance, • Production or facility-related projects, • Responsible for ensuring high levels of safety and quality in the work environment while adhering to OSHA, GMP, and Food Safety across the operations. Food Safety & Compliance: • Audits, compliance and maintenance updates for Organic Certification, Kosher, GMP, SQF, FDA, CA Dept. of Ag., • CCP Training/Food safety team training and development, • Annual Safe Serve Certification, • Interdepartmental point of contact for customer document requests relating to certifications & compliance. Environmental Safety: • OSHA Regulatory adherence and compliance, • Powered Industrial Equipment Training, • Injury Tracking and Prevention, • Safety Team Captain, • Safety Report out for TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate), • Safety Documentation Program implementation, • Ergonomics and PPE review and cost reductions, • Shared Point of Contact – Emeryville FD, • Audit, assets and remedy safety issues with new machine installations such as: hazardous energy isolation, machine guarding & machine labeling, • Inclement Weather Internal and External Evacuation plan review and improvement, • Establish functional Emergency Response Teams Requirements: • Bachelor’s Degree in Managerial/Technical field, or equivalent professional experience in leadership, operations, or technical support roles., • 5+ years of demonstrated experience of manufacturing leadership or comparable experience, preferably in food beverage products., • Good understanding of LEAN manufacturing principles., • Experience working in a team leadership role in Manufacturing Environment is required, • Ability to record, report and analyze reliable data, experience with NetSuite a plus, • Experience with lean manufacturing and quality systems supporting a continuous improvement culture, • Ability to understand and analyze a manufacturing/supply chain P&L, • Willingness to be very hands-on and detail-oriented Preferred Skills: • Bilingual proficiency (English and Spanish) strongly preferred., • Commercial coffee roasting experience, • Project Management experience, • Lean Certification Physical Aspects of this Job: The physical activity of this position: • Reaching: extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction;, • Standing: particularly for sustained periods of time;, • Walking: moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another;, • Fingering: picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling;, • Grasping: applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm;, • Feeling: perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips;, • Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly;, • Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound; The physical requirements of this position: • Light work - exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The visual acuity requirements (including color, depth perception, and field vision) of this position: • Requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
