Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. BJI seeks Case Managers for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP). Reporting to Supervising Case Managers, Case Managers are the front line of service delivery and key to ensuring that the program meets its mandate. Specifically, Case Managers will supervise SRP participants according to their assigned tier and level; work with participants to identify and address barriers to compliance and court attendance; conduct outreach to participants, court stakeholders, community-based service providers, and collateral contacts; connect participants to appropriate services in the community to support their stabilization, and ensure accurate and timely court reporting on participants’ compliance with program requirements. With a team of over 900 staff and an annual budget of $130 million, the Center carries out its mission through three core strategies: • Operating Programs that pilot new ideas and address local challenges;, • Conducting original research to evaluate what works—and what doesn’t; and THE OPPORTUNITY The Brooklyn Mental Health Court (BMHC) launched in 2002 as NYC’s first mental health court, serving individuals charged primarily with felony offenses who are living with serious mental illness. The program diverts participants from jail or prison by conducting clinical assessments and then connecting them with long-term treatment in the community, along with rigorous judicial monitoring. The court aims to strengthen the justice system’s ability to identify, assess, and monitor individual participants, to create linkages between the justice and mental health systems, and to improve public safety by ensuring that participants receive high quality community-based services. The Brooklyn Felony ATI Program utilizes a similar model to Brooklyn Mental Health Court, serving individuals facing felony charges who are not otherwise eligible for Mental Health Court or other treatment courts in Brooklyn. The program receives referrals through two pathways: (1) the dedicated Felony ATI court part within Brooklyn Supreme Court, with a dedicated judge and supervising prosecutor; and (2) through other court parts throughout Brooklyn Criminal and Supreme Court. Regardless of the referral pathway, all participants receive individualized assessments, onsite and community-based services, compliance monitoring and judicial monitoring for the life of the case. BMHC is seeking a Social Worker for its Brooklyn Felony Diversion programs. The Social Worker will serve individuals who are mandated to Felony Alternative to Incarceration (Felony ATI) programming through the Brooklyn Supreme Court. Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Social Worker is responsible for conducting psychosocial assessments, linking clients to a range of wrap-around services, providing comprehensive trauma-informed case management, compliance monitoring, and reporting for clients referred to the Brooklyn Mental Health Court and Brooklyn Felony ATI programs. Job Description STEPS Criminalized Survivors Program - Rising Ground’s anti-intimate partner violence program - offers a variety of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive programming focused on the prevention of intimate partner violence (IPV); advocacy and healing for survivors and children impacted by abusive partner behavior; and training intended to increase awareness of the epidemic of gender-based violence. Since the program's founding in 1986, STEPS has been deliberately dedicated to engaging in work that is innovative and deeply survivor-centered and works to promote the idea that support for survivors of IPV that is not aligned with anti-oppressive, anti-racist, feminist/womanist principles tends to unintentionally mimic systems of oppression, and is ultimately, re-traumatizing and ineffective. For over 30 years, the STEPS Criminalized Survivors Program has offered comprehensive clinical and legal support services to survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) or other forms of gender- based violence (GBV) who have been criminalized for their efforts to survive or resist abusive partner behavior. We support survivors facing felony and/or misdemeanor charges in any borough. In addition, STEPS CSP has a designated Advocate/Counselor serving criminalized survivors on- site at the Manhattan and Brooklyn Family Justice Centers, and a Training team that helps lead the City's whole-City response to criminalized survivors. About the Role The Clinical Advocate will provide direct counseling and emotional support, rigorous advocacy, and case management to criminalized survivors facing felony and/or misdemeanor charges in any borough, and will provide aftercare as needed. The Clinical Advocate will collaborate with defense attorneys and other providers and stakeholders in support of criminalized survivors and will engage in evidence-based assessment and service planning in partnership with survivors. The ATI Court, which is led by Administrative Judge Ellen Biben, seeks to forge a new response to individuals charged with felonies by linking them to community-based social services. The Court is the first of its kind, providing an innovative model for other jurisdictions seeking to develop and implement meaningful post-conviction sentencing options for individuals facing felony charges. Reporting to the Senior Social Worker of Jail Diversion, the Social Worker, will be responsible for conducting independent clinical assessments and drafting treatment recommendations for defendants being held in pretrial detention. The Social Worker will conduct these assessments and complete these treatment plans according to a strict timeline, ensuring that the process is completed as quickly as possible. The goal is to provide information that will enable defense attorneys, prosecutors, and judges to resolve cases as quickly as possible, significantly reducing the time people spend in pretrial detention. An essential and dynamic feature of the Social Worker’s role will be close collaboration with key external stakeholders. Brooklyn Supervised Release seeks a Community Engagement Specialist. Reporting to the Community Engagement Coordinator, the Community Engagement Specialist will have comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and lived experience successfully addressing foundational needs through local service providers. The Community Engagement Specialist will utilize this expertise to support participants’ attendance at court dates and engagement in services by meeting with participants in the community to provide navigation support and facilitating warm handoffs between Case Managers, SRP Clinicians, and local service providers when referrals are made or mandated by the court. Additionally, Community Engagement Specialists will build and maintain relationships with and knowledge of local service providers. BJI is seeking a Clinical Manager for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP). Reporting to the Director of Practice, Programming and Partnerships, the Clinical Manager will oversee SRP Clinicians who provide intake, assessment, evidence-based group and individual programming to address participant needs and court mandates, and crisis support to participants in need. This position leverages clinical, supervisory, and program management experience to support the SRP Clinicians in the execution of their responsibilities. Specifically, the Clinical Manager will provide SRP Clinicians with supervision and case conferencing in both one-on-one and group formats to ensure program offerings and clinical interventions are carried out thoroughly, ethically, and in alignment with the program model and organizational values. Lastly, the Clinical Manager also plays a key role in overseeing quality assurance systems and internal audits for the clinician team to ensure the teams’ compliance with program requirements, court reporting obligations, and adherence to the program model.
