Job DescriptionSUMMARY: Seeking an experienced Hematology/Oncology APRN to support our brain tumor and sarcoma/solid tumor programs on the Nicklaus Children’s Campus. Under indirect supervision and working interdependently with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, provides a broad range of nurse practitioner services following established policies and protocols. Performs a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for patient admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation. Participates in performance improvement, research, and educational activities. Assists physicians with clinical documentation. Supports inpatient daytime coverage as needed. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations., • Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients., • Assists Hematology/Oncology attendings on seeing consults/procedures on hospital floors when needed (including the NICU, PICU, and ED), • Assist attendings with multidisciplinary rounds, • Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests., • Monitors patients undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy., • Interprets laboratory and test results., • Provides education and continuity/quality of care guidance to rotating pediatric residents on floor, • Upon discharge, notes discharge summaries, prescriptions, and any referrals on patient charts., • Informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions., • Provides teaching and emotional support to patients and families., • Triages and refers patients for further care based on severity of illness and symptoms., • Utilizes written guidelines/protocol for clinical decision making and management., • Prepares timely, legible, and complete documentation of all patient care as provided by law, regulation, and established policy., • Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights., • Applies safety principles as identified by established policy., • Participates in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current technologies/practices., • Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; ensures compliance with JCAHO, federal, state, and local regulations., • Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals., • Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality., • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
