Job DescriptionSalary: $20-$22/hour DOE The Buffalo office of Lippes Mathias is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our team. The tax enforcement litigation group handles over a thousand In Rem tax lien foreclosure proceedings each year. The process is extremely complex requiring staff to be focused on organization and attention to detail. Our tax enforcement litigation group prepares, files, and serves necessary legal documents as well as engages in any necessary motion practice and/or litigation when necessary, coordinates auctions of properties, handles creditor advocacy in bankruptcy, and effectuates real estate closings on the properties sold at auction. Our firm also monitors, tracks, and processes the high volume of actions, papers and inquiries associated with an In Rem proceeding and other tax enforcement matters. Responsibilities include: • Answer a large volume of phone calls, • Review correspondence, • Track returned mailings, • Review title searches, • Input data, • Mail merging and stuffing envelopes for large mailings, • Compile of motions., • Review pacer for bankruptcy filings, • Client communication, • Manage and maintain closing checklists for sales transactions, • Maintain electronic tracking systems of department matters, • Prepare memoranda for opening new matters, • Create/maintain electronic directories, • Prepare, send out, and file copies of transmittal letters, • Save, print, and file submissions, • Delivery Requests when necessary, • Redact and edit documents, • Copy and collate closing packages for real estate closings, • Maintain closed files, review and follow up on necessary items in order to close files, • Perform general office duties as required Our ideal Legal Assistant will have: • At least 1-year experience as a Legal Assistant, • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, • Attention to detail and organizational skills, • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, • Accurate typing speed of 65+ wpm, • Experience with drafting, editing, and revising of legal documents, • Ability to multi-task and to complete projects with little direction, • Ability to use discretion and handle confidential information, • Ability to meet deadlines and produce high quality work products, • Experience with document management systems such as ProLaw, • Reliable attendance Salary range depending on experience: $20-$22/hour The pay range provided in this listing is a good faith estimate for this position based on the location that we are hiring for. Criteria included but not limited to, skill level, education, and experience, will determine where a candidate falls within the range.
