Job Description Director of Merchandising - Outdoor Living Folsom, California (Sacramento Area) Relocation assistance available Green Acres Nursery & Supply is expanding and seeking a Director of Merchandising - Outdoor Living to lead the strategic growth of our Outdoor Living category across multiple retail locations in California and Texas. About Green Acres Nursery & Supply: Green Acres Nursery & Supply encompasses a family of industry-leading, high-volume retail garden centers and wholesale landscape plant nurseries. Our retail stores offer a broad product mix, including plants, landscape supplies, and a full Outdoor Living assortment featuring patio furniture, grills, fire pits, umbrellas, and seasonal accessories. Green Acres first opened in Roseville, California in 2003 and has expanded to seven locations in the greater Sacramento region and three locations in North Texas. About the Role: Green Acres Nursery & Supply is growing and seeking an experienced retail merchandising and category leader to drive the continued expansion of our Outdoor Living category. This role will plan and execute strategies to significantly grow sales and margin across outdoor furniture, grills, fire pits, umbrellas, and related outdoor living accessories. The Director will lead category performance through vendor partnerships, product sourcing, buying strategy, assortment planning, pricing, merchandising execution, and retail analytics. The ideal candidate is a business leader with progressive experience in retail merchandising, category management, buying, and vendor partnerships within outdoor furniture, patio furniture, grills, or related home furnishings categories. To Be Considered, Candidates Must Have: • Proven experience in retail merchandising and category management, • Background in outdoor furniture, patio furniture, grills, or related furniture categories, • Demonstrated success managing vendor relationships and negotiating costs, terms, and programs, • Experience driving sales growth, margin performance, and assortment planning, • Ability to develop category strategies across multiple retail locations, • Strong experience with product sourcing, buying, and vendor management, • Experience collaborating with operations, merchandising, and marketing teams Key Responsibilities: • Lead the overall merchandising strategy for the Outdoor Living category, • Develop and execute category growth plans to increase sales and margin, • Manage vendor sourcing, relationships, and negotiations, • Lead product buying and assortment planning for outdoor furniture and grills, • Develop pricing strategies and margin plans, • Partner with store leadership on merchandising execution and displays, • Guide visual merchandising strategy across store locations, • Maintain regular in-store presence to support category execution, • Develop training tools and product knowledge resources for store teams, • Partner with marketing on promotions and seasonal campaigns, • Monitor industry trends and competitive assortments, • Attend industry trade shows and buying markets, • Analyze sales, margin, and inventory performance, • Communicate category strategy and performance with senior leadership Candidate Requirements: • 5+ years of progressive experience in retail merchandising and category management, • Bachelor’s degree in retail management, business, or related field (or equivalent experience), • Proven success in developing and growing product categories in outdoor furniture, grills, or related home furnishings, • Experience with planning, sourcing, buying, visual merchandising, and retail analytics, • Experience working in multi-location retail environments, • Ability to lead teams and execute both strategically and tactually, • Strong business judgment and decision-making skills, • Collaborative leadership style with strong interpersonal communication skills, • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, • Proven vendor negotiation and vendor management experience, • Comfort working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial retail environment, • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and retail POS/ERP systems Work Environment: • Full-time, on-site role at the Green Acres Support Center in Folsom, California, • Regular travel to company store locations, • Occasional national or international travel for trade shows and buying trips, • Flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed Compensation & Benefits: Salary range: $140,000 – $220,000 annually Benefits include: • 401(k) with company match, • Health insurance with HSA option and company contribution, • Dental insurance, • Vision insurance, • Paid vacation and sick leave, • Employee merchandise discounts Other: Our Company is committed to a policy of Equal Employment Opportunity and will not discriminate against an applicant or employee on the basis of age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, color, creed, religion, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship, medical condition, disability, marital status, military service, pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions, genetic information, or any other legally-recognized protected basis under federal, state or local laws, regulations or ordinances.
