Job Description Position Purpose: The Psychiatric Medical Scribe / Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare professionals by accurately documenting physician-patient interactions, notes, plan of care and assisting with various clerical tasks related to medical documentation. This position may also perform Medical Assistant duties within the regulatory scope of practice, performing routine patient care procedures, technical and supportive functions in the provision of direct patient care. The Psychiatric Medical Scribe/Medical Assist will work closely with psychiatrists and other behavioral health providers to ensure accurate and efficient medical record keeping, as well as perform essential medical assistant duties. Principal Responsibilities: • Accompany psychiatrists during patient interviews and examinations., • Accurately transcribe and document all aspects of the patient encounter, including medical and psychiatric history, physical examination findings, treatment plans, and diagnostic test results., • Record patient information in an electronic medical record (EMR) system., • Ensure clarity, accuracy, and completeness of medical records., • Manage and organize patient records, ensuring proper filing and easy accessibility., • Assist with maintaining an efficient and organized medical office., • Working with Behavioral Health Aide schedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures as required., • Work closely with Behavioral Health Aides to handle patient inquiries, both in person and over the phone, in a courteous and professional manner., • Process incoming and outgoing medical correspondence., • Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed health care personnel following established clinic policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities, • Collects and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure, pulse oximeter, and peak flow measurement. according to established policies and procedures, • Participate in JWCH’s customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis., • Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions., • Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves clinical outcomes., • Collects urine, sputum and stool specimens by noninvasive techniques,, • Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency,, • Prepare examination rooms for patient visits, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary supplies., • Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and height/weight as required., • Assist healthcare providers with minor medical procedures and treatments., • Administer medications as directed and ensure proper documentation., • Perform venipuncture for blood draws or other specimen collections., • Assist with patient education, explaining procedures, medications, and post-visit care instructions., • Sterilize and maintain medical equipment, as well as ensure compliance with infection control protocols., • Adhere to strict patient confidentiality and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations., • Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors., • Participate in required safety and compliance trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities., • Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards in the workplace., • Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards., • Maintain awareness of infection control, occupational health, and emergency preparedness procedures appropriate to the role., • Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate., • Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association, • High school diploma or equivalent., • 2 years’ experience as a medical scribe and medical assistant, • Experience working with Psychiatry or Behavioral Health mental health providers, • Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems., • Strong knowledge of medical and psychiatric terminology and medical coding., • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills., • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities., • Detail-oriented with high accuracy in data entry., • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment., • Excellent customer service-compassion, empathy, and professionalism in patient interactions., • Ability to organize and track multiple records and requests and follow through in a timely manner., • Knowledge and skill in using various computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email., • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
