This position works in the sterile processing room that supports the Otolarygology Clinic and Glassrock Procedure Room and works closely with Central Processing. Central Processing is one department within Perioperative Services that supports 32 operating rooms by cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation, flexible scope and case picking equipment. The Central Processing unit also supports Patient Care, _ Services, Ambulatory Services, and the Primary Care Network: within the health system by cleaning, disinfecting reusable equipment and the cleaning. disinfecting and sterilization of surgical instrumentation used by these services. Central Processing deans and restocks all emergency crash carts; first responder bags. PAPR supply cart, airway boxes and ICU transport bags. The Central Processing manages fiscal, materiel, and human resources to support the planning and coordination of surgical care and other patient care in the hospital and clinics. Responsibilities are focused on the technical aspects of cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, sterilizing and putting together functional instruments and.equipment for surgical services. Other responsibilities are disinfecting, cleaning and reassembling equipment i.e.. ventilators and other patient care equipment. This position functions as a working resource person for the CPU and functions as a supervisor in the absence of the supervisor. #CA-DS Apply By Date 4/30/2026 at 11:59pm PST Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position. • CRCST from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or CSPDT from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), • Current and ongoing certification from the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution is required, • High school diploma, • At least two (2) years of recent experience in a similar setting Central Processing Unit is required., • Demonstrated work experience utilizing AORN guidelines and recommended practices for perioperative care, including surgical instrument and equipment handling, cleaning and decontamination processes, sterilization packaging selection, and compliance with surgical attire standards., • Experienced in American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) recommended practices., • Assist in planning and organizing workflow; meet established turnaround times and deadlines., • Ability to integrate understanding of UCDHS goals, objectives, commitments, and projections within a service oriented healthcare environment., • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks concurrently., • Maintain a clean and organized work area., • Ability to prioritize and reorganize work in response to STAT/Emergency requests., • Ability to set priorities and organize work independently and for others., • Incomplete or pending work is organized and appropriately left for follow up., • Generally meets established turnaround times and administrative deadlines., • Productivity compares to the average productivity of the section., • Uses spare time in work related activities contributing to department needs., • Maintains a satisfactory level of performance., • Adheres to detail when performing work assignments., • Knowledge of AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses) Recommended Practices on: Care of instruments, scopes, and powered surgical instruments, Cleaning and processing of instruments, Selection and use of packaging materials, and Surgical attire, • Minimum of one (1) year in processing endoscopes and instruments in ambulatory setting, • ENT knowledge and experience preferred, • Experience with training staff regarding processing of instruments and endoscopes, • 15% - Leadership, Resource/Liaison Responsibilities, and Professional Development and Training, • 40% - Complex Scope/Endoscope Processing, • 30% - Sterilization Responsibilities, • 10% - Assembly Responsibilities The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the UC Davis Medical Center provides comprehensive clinical services to patients throughout Northern California, from the Oregon and Nevada borders to Fresno and the Bay Area.
