Job DescriptionTrusts & Estates Attorney Trusts & Estates Attorney Position Overview We are seeking a Trusts & Estates Attorney to provide comprehensive estate planning, administration, and probate services to individuals, families, and fiduciaries. The ideal candidate will draft and implement wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, and healthcare proxies; advise on tax and gifting strategies; oversee trust and estate administration; and represent clients in probate and related matters. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent client communication to deliver practical, tax-efficient estate solutions. Key Responsibilities • Draft, review, and implement estate planning documents including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, durable powers of attorney, advance directives, and healthcare proxies., • Advise clients on estate, gift, and tax planning strategies to minimize tax liability and achieve wealth transfer goals., • Counsel clients on fiduciary duties, trust administration, asset titling, beneficiary designations, and funding of trusts., • Manage probate and estate administration matters: prepare and file petitions, inventory assets, coordinate creditor notices, distribute estate assets, and close estates., • Prepare and review estate and fiduciary tax filings (e.g., estate tax returns, fiduciary income tax returns) and coordinate with CPAs on tax planning and compliance., • Draft and review trust modifications, decantings, disclaimers, and selected trust litigation documents when necessary., • Represent clients in contested probate and trust litigation, mediation, and court proceedings as needed., • Coordinate with financial advisors, accountants, insurance professionals, and other advisors to implement integrated estate plans., • Maintain detailed client files, ensure timely filings and court deadlines, and manage billing and client communication., • Supervise paralegals and junior attorneys, delegate tasks, and review work for accuracy and compliance., • Engage in business development and client relationship building through seminars, community outreach, and referrals.Qualifications, • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar., • 3+ years of experience practicing trusts and estates, estate planning, or probate law (more experience preferred for senior roles)., • Demonstrated experience drafting and administering wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, and healthcare proxies., • Knowledge of estate, gift, and trust tax rules and experience preparing or coordinating estate and fiduciary tax filings., • Experience with probate administration, trust administration, and contested probate or trust matters., • Familiarity with gifting strategies, asset protection techniques, and tax planning for high-net-worth clients., • Strong legal research, drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills, with excellent attention to detail., • Exceptional client-facing skills, ability to explain complex legal and tax concepts in plain language, and strong interpersonal judgment., • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines, prioritize work, and supervise support staff., • Proficiency with practice management software, document automation, and electronic filing systems; comfort working with digital client portals.
