Job DescriptionJob Title: Packer Job Description The Packer plays a key role in keeping production lines running efficiently and ensuring all food products are packaged accurately, safely, and in compliance with strict quality standards. This position involves rotating through various packaging tasks, operating packaging equipment, handling materials, and entering production data into computer systems while consistently following food safety and workplace safety procedures. Responsibilities • Perform all tasks in strict accordance with Safety and Food Safety Standards, consistently prioritizing a safe work environment., • Participate in safety training programs and actively contribute to safety initiatives to support a strong culture of safety., • Ensure full compliance with regulatory and company requirements, including SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA, Food Safety, Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, and Gluten Free standards., • Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of the products being packed, including product specifications and the weight of each tortilla produced., • Retrieve product specifications from the company ERP system and use them to guide packaging activities., • Identify and understand the specifications of boxes and bags used for packaging to ensure correct materials are used for each product., • Program date coding machines for bags and boxes for different products according to production rotation requirements., • Prepare the workstation at the start of the shift with all required bags and boxes and maintain a clean, organized work area in line with good housekeeping policies., • Follow the production schedule and specifications to meet productivity goals and packaging targets., • Participate in line rotation throughout the day or workweek, including moving to other lines, assisting co-workers, cleaning lines during downtime, and providing break and lunch coverage as needed., • Maintain continuous communication with line leaders and machine operators regarding any product deficiencies such as raw or overcooked tortillas, incorrect weights, or size issues, and proactively share information with co-workers., • Operate packaging equipment including Auto Baggers and Ilapak systems to package products efficiently and accurately., • Perform complete changeovers in the packaging area, including vision systems, counter stackers, auto baggers, bag printers, and weight settings., • Enter production information into the TGI Machine Log and complete product pathways within the TGI system., • Record and track all downtime accurately in the Machine Log system., • Retrieve packaging materials from the warehouse and return all unused materials to warehouse storage at the end of each production run., • Use computers and RF guns proficiently to access product information, manage inventory, and record production data., • Rotate continuously within assigned workstations, including packaging tortillas, boxing tortillas, lifting boxes up to 50 lbs., and stacking or palletizing products throughout the shift., • Assist with quality assurance activities, which may include pH verification, metal detection checks, recording pH levels, identifying specification deviations, and performing line quality checks., • Follow and comply with all SQF requirements and maintain workstations in accordance with SQF guidelines., • Perform manual packaging, sealing products, organizing products into boxes, placing products on pallets, and operating pallet jacks to move finished goods or raw materials., • Conduct visual inspections of products and promptly report any issues or irregularities., • Access product specifications via the ERP system and accurately enter required data into the system., • Adhere to general manufacturing practices and all company policies related to food safety, quality, and workplace conduct., • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall production and packaging operations.Essential Skills, • Grade school education required; High School Diploma or GED is a plus., • 1–2 years of experience operating or working with food manufacturing machinery or similar equipment., • 1–2 years of experience following work task specifications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), recipes, or similar written instructions., • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to follow instructions and document production information., • Proficiency in basic math and proper use of a calculator for weights, counts, and production calculations., • Basic computer skills for accessing ERP systems, entering data, and using production software such as TGI Machine Log., • Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues with products, packaging materials, and equipment., • Strong organizational skills to manage materials, maintain orderly workstations, and follow production schedules., • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and support co-workers across different lines and tasks., • Self-motivation and attention to detail, including the ability to identify errors in product and packaging materials., • Ability to work at required line speeds while consistently following established safety requirements., • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis., • Ability to perform work while standing for prolonged periods and to handle continual walking on hard surfaces., • Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, reach, grasp, kneel, squat, and work in adverse or awkward positions as needed., • Reliable and punctual with flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and off-shifts as business needs require., • Ability to comply with company attendance and punctuality policies., • Ability to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner., • Commitment to comply with and follow all food safety and third-party certification policies, including SQF, Gluten-Free, Organic, and related programs., • Ability to operate pallet jacks and other industrial equipment safely after appropriate training.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • High School Diploma or GED preferred., • Previous experience in food manufacturing, packaging, general labor, picking, material handling, palletizing, stacking, or inventory management is highly beneficial., • Experience using ERP systems to access product specifications and enter production or inventory data., • Experience with RF guns for inventory control and material tracking., • Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, and other food safety programs in a manufacturing environment., • Comfort working with rotating and reciprocating parts and around automated packaging equipment., • Strong attention to detail for visual product inspections and quality checks., • Ability to adapt to changing production needs, including frequent line rotations and changeovers., • Willingness to participate in ongoing training related to safety, quality, and equipment operation.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a food manufacturing facility with continual walking and standing on hard surfaces, as well as frequent climbing and descending steps. The work involves ongoing bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Employees work around rotating and reciprocating parts and operate industrial equipment such as pallet jacks. The environment includes exposure to cool and hot temperatures and production noise. Shifts may include weekends, holidays, and off-shifts, and team members are expected to remain alert and safety-focused at all times while adhering to all food safety and third-party certification requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.57 - $21.57/hr.
