Job DescriptionJob Title: Quality Control (QC) Manager – Mechanical Construction Job Description This role leads mechanical quality control for an approximately $80M mechanical construction project that supports HVAC, process piping, utilities, and GMP-controlled environments for laboratories and preclinical manufacturing facilities in Tarrytown, NY. The Quality Control (QC) Manager oversees all shop and field quality activities, ensuring that mechanical systems meet stringent codes, standards, and documentation requirements throughout construction and turnover. Responsibilities • Lead and manage all mechanical quality control activities for both shop and field operations on a large mechanical construction project., • Ensure full compliance with applicable quality standards, GMP requirements, and approved contract documents for all mechanical work., • Perform day-to-day inspections of carbon steel and stainless steel welding in accordance with ASME B31 codes., • Inspect and verify valve installations, tagging, and proper identification throughout the project., • Inspect HVAC and utility piping installations and witness pressure testing, flushing, and system testing to confirm integrity and performance., • Coordinate and witness testing activities, including the preparation and maintenance of required test documentation as the project progresses., • Conduct detailed field walkdowns using Procore, verifying installations against P&IDs and approved construction drawings., • Confirm that P&IDs remain accurate and updated throughout construction, coordinating revisions as needed., • Work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to develop, implement, and maintain effective valve tagging systems., • Oversee material inspection and traceability, including verification of MTRs, heat numbers, and IMER reports., • Manage all aspects of welding quality, including adherence to procedures and applicable codes., • Coordinate weld inspections and NDE/NDT testing, track welder qualifications, and review daily weld coupons., • Utilize Bluebeam and Bluebeam Studio for drawing review, markups, and collaborative quality coordination., • Support and manage digital welding inspection tools and custom-built QC applications to streamline quality processes., • Enforce Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and ensure real-time, accurate documentation using Procore, SharePoint, Microsoft tools, Bluebeam, and spreadsheets., • Lead the preparation of Construction Turnover Packages (CTOP/TOP), including pressure test records, weld documentation, material traceability, and other required closeout records., • Support and close out commissioning (CX) activities, including walkthroughs, punch list resolution, and as-built documentation for mechanical systems., • Act as the primary quality liaison with project management, inspectors, and commissioning teams, facilitating clear communication and issue resolution., • Contribute to document control, as-built documentation, and site quality control for mechanical systems, piping layout, and MEP interfaces.Essential Skills, • At least 8 years of quality control experience in mechanical construction, preferably within biopharma or life sciences projects., • Strong knowledge of ASME B31 codes and hygienic piping requirements., • Experience working in GMP-controlled environments and understanding of related quality expectations., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, for reporting and communication., • Experience using SharePoint for document management and collaboration., • Ability to build and maintain spreadsheets for QC tracking and reporting., • Hands-on experience with Procore for inspections, walkdowns, and documentation control., • Proficiency with Bluebeam and Bluebeam Studio for drawing review, markups, and coordination., • Experience with digital welding inspection tools or custom-built QC applications., • Proven ability to manage welding inspection programs, material control, and turnover documentation on construction projects., • Strong attention to detail in inspection, documentation, and material traceability., • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple inspections, tests, and documentation workflows., • Clear and effective communication skills for coordination with project management, field teams, inspectors, and commissioning personnel., • Experience with quality control and quality inspection of welding, material inspection, and mechanical systems., • Background in site quality control, visual inspection, and QA/QC inspections for piping and MEP systems.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is preferred and strongly valued., • Prior experience on large-scale pharmaceutical or biotech construction projects., • Experience with piping layout and MEP coordination in complex mechanical projects., • Experience supporting as-built documentation and construction turnover on large capital projects., • Background in quality assurance and construction quality programs for mechanical systems., • Familiarity with managing document control processes for inspections, test records, and turnover packages., • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including construction, engineering, and commissioning groups.Work Environment This position is based on a large campus expansion project in Tarrytown, NY, focused on mechanical construction for laboratories and preclinical manufacturing facilities. The work environment combines field and office settings, with frequent presence on active construction sites to perform inspections, walkdowns, and testing oversight. You will regularly use digital tools and platforms such as Procore, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and specialized welding inspection applications to manage quality documentation and collaborate with project stakeholders. The role involves close coordination with construction, engineering, and commissioning teams in a fast-paced environment that emphasizes safety, accuracy, and compliance with GMP and industry codes. Work hours typically align with standard construction schedules, with flexibility as needed to support inspections, testing activities, and project milestones. Appropriate field attire and personal protective equipment are required when working on site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tarrytown, NY.
