POSITION OVERVIEW The Vice President of Development is the organization’s chief architect of philanthropic revenue and brand strategy. This executive leads all fundraising, marketing, communications, and public relations operations to drive increased visibility, engagement, and sustainable revenue growth. Reporting to the President/CEO and serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President of Development designs and executes a comprehensive development and communications strategy, personally manages a major donor portfolio, and positions the organization for long‑term financial and reputational success. The Vice President also works closely with the Board of Directors to activate them as ambassadors and fundraisers. EMPLOYEES DIRECTLY SUPERVISED: The Vice President of Development manages and oversees all development and marketing positions such as: Director of Major Gifts, Director of Corporate Partnerships, Director of Special Events, Director of Grants and Compliance, Director of Individual Giving, Director of Marketing & Public Relations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP, • Develop an integrated strategy for fundraising, marketing, communications, and public relations that advances organizational priorities., • Create annual development and marketing plans, revenue forecasts, and departmental budgets., • Serve as a senior advisor to the CEO and Board on philanthropy, brand positioning, and market visibility., • Lead organizational readiness for major initiatives including capital campaigns, brand refreshes, and growth strategies., • FUNDRAISING & REVENUE GENERATION, • Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donors, prospects, and institutional funders., • Lead all aspects of fundraising across individual, corporate, foundation, and government channels., • Oversee grant development processes, including proposal writing, compliance, and reporting., • Drive donor engagement strategies through events, campaigns, stewardship activities, and meaningful relationship‑building., • Strengthen the major donor pipeline using data‑driven prospect research and qualification practices., • Develop strong communications and recognition of donors and prospects to maintain and build the image of BGCGSD., • Partner closely with Operations leadership to link fundraising to impact work, including creating engagement opportunities that engender donor loyalty and additional action., • MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS & PUBLIC RELATIONS, • Oversee the creation and execution of a cohesive marketing and communications strategy that strengthens awareness, engagement, and revenue outcomes., • Ensure consistent messaging and brand identity across digital, print, media, and community platforms., • Direct public relations efforts including media outreach, press releases, crisis communications, and community partnerships., • Direct the development of marketing assets, storytelling content, impact reports, and cases for support., • Collaborate with internal teams to align communications with program outcomes and fundraising priorities., • Oversee the organization’s digital footprint, including website, social media, newsletters, and marketing analytics., • BOARD & LEADERSHIP ENGAGEMENT, • Partner with the CEO to activate the Board in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and brand ambassadorship., • Provide coaching and resources that improve fundraising and communication effectiveness., • Lead Development and Marketing-related Board committees and support governance needs as assigned., • TEAM LEADERSHIP & OPERATIONS, • Lead a high-performing Development and Marketing/Communications team, promoting excellence and accountability., • Design staffing structures, workflows, and professional development plans that support strategic goals, using defined KPIs and performance metrics to measure effectiveness, productivity, and outcomes., • Oversee systems, databases, marketing platforms, and reporting tools to ensure strong operations., • Ensure compliance with fundraising ethics, donor confidentiality, and brand standards., • Anticipate potential personnel issues and proactively collaborate with Human Resources in a timely manner to resolve concerns using tact, diplomacy and strict confidentiality., • Review and approve time sheets; monitor attendance, vacations, sick leave reporting., • ADMINISTRATIVE, • The Vice President of Development provides leadership and recommendations on personnel decisions, including hiring, discipline, promotion, advancement, termination, and other employment status changes., • Represent the organization in the community; exceptional communicator and an articulate, passionate and credible public presence for BGCGSD and an effective, strong, inspirational and focused leader within the community. REQUIRED • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing, nonprofit management, or related field., • 7+ years of progressive experience in development, with demonstrated success in personally securing major gifts., • Proven leadership experience in marketing, communications, or public relations., • Exceptional relationship‑building, communication, and storytelling skills., • Experience leading teams and working at the executive level.
