Job Description Job Title: Mental Health Therapist - Close to Home Non-Secure Placement Aftercare Program Reports To: Aftercare Supervisor Location: 692 Blake Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11207 Hours: 35 Hours/Week; (Some Evenings Required. Position requires to staff to be on site. Hybrid schedules based on program needs & at leadership discretion) Salary Range: 61k-72K based on relevant post-education, experience, and NYS License. Job Summary: The NSP Aftercare program provides support to youth and their families following the youth’s release from residential placement back into their communities. The Therapist provides short-term individual child and/or family therapy for youth and families in the aftercare program to promote successful adjustment back to the community. This position provides comprehensive assessment and treatment to address identified personal, behavioral, or family issues, utilizing a strength-based approach that focuses on youth and family development. All work is trauma-informed and ensures that the Sanctuary 7 commitments are embedded into practice, and that the tools of this model are utilized when appropriate to address the trauma symptoms of the population. The therapist provides Solution-focused, brief therapy, in-home, strength-based, comprehensive services to families whose children have been involved in the Juvenile Justice System and are back or transitioning back into the community. Major Duties: • Administer individual mental health assessments, including but not limited to the Trauma Symptom Checklist for Children., • Provide solution-focused brief therapy, individual, family, and group counseling, as well as short-term crisis intervention, including advocacy and outreach for designated caseload using agreed-upon models, including CBT/TF-CBT., • Empower families through impactful therapeutic interventions and insightful assessments—delivered flexibly via in-office sessions, telehealth, and personalized home visits., • Drive meaningful transformation in family functioning through dynamic therapeutic services and insightful assessments—offered in-office, via telehealth, and directly in the home to meet families where they thrive., • Complete bi-annual treatment plans, psycho-social assessments, and trauma-based assessments on each assigned youth., • Facilitate and/or participate in psycho-educational groups., • Help and/or support youth through mental health crises., • Facilitate long-term referrals to alcohol, substance abuse, and mental health treatment facilities and other service providers, including escorting to appointments as needed., • Participate in Administration for Children Services (ACS) conferences, including Elevated Risk & Transition Conferences., • Participate in Treatment Team meetings to collaborate with Treatment team members to develop a discharge plan for the youth., • Provide youth and families with support to utilize and/or practice effective coping, communication, and self-care skills to promote for the de-escalation of crisis and processing of crisis situations., • Participate in Aftercare staff/team meetings and trainings., • Complete necessary documentation and maintain appropriate utilization of databases (Connections and Evolv),, • Learn and support youth in the Aftercare program to apply the Missouri Approach as they transition back to their natural groups., • Effectively use and practice the Sanctuary Model tools: safety plans, community meetings, psycho-educational groups, team meetings, red flag reviews, treatment planning conferences (or similar), and self-care, when applicable, in the department/program to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture., • Promote and model the seven Sanctuary Model commitments to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture., • Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss, and Future) framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment., • Ability and willingness to be trained in and utilize Safety Crisis Management ( SCM) skills and techniques., • Master's Degree in Social Work Or Mental Health Counselling Required., • NYS LMSW or NYS LMHC Required., • Bilingual (English/ Spanish/Creole) preferred., • Willingness to work in the community and provide in-home therapy to families., • Ability to use public transportation throughout the city., • Valid Driver's license strongly preferred., • Experience with in-home family therapy strongly preferred., • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including Saturday schedule if needed., • Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills. The Residence Manager will run a home characterized by a supportive and therapeutic environment, conducive to self-improvement, and assure fidelity to utilizing Integrated Treatment Model (ITM) in conjunction with other models such as CBT, MYSI, Seven Challenges to support the milieu experience. Job Responsibilities: ● Assure that the manager respective facility complies with agency, city and state standards, and that staffing ratios are maintained. ● Must be able to obtain and maintain s95 or F80 FDNY fire alarms certifications. ● Support the principles of the Missouri Youth Institute (MYSI), Seven Challenges, ROCA CBT" with the end goal of teaching the young people to make positive, lasting changes in their behavior and prepare them to be self-sufficient through education and work experience. ● Prepare full-time staff schedules and ensure proper coverage utilizing per diem staff. ● Approve time sheets (payroll) and prepare overtime reports. ● Appropriately document accidents, illnesses, incidents, injuries, and other relevant reports ● Provide regular weekly supervision to Assistant Managers and all staff who report directly to the Residence Manager. Maintain a supervisory log to document this supervision. ● Develop the Assistance Manager and identify areas for growth and development. ● Hold all staff to high performance standards to ensure they accomplish all functions and provide quality services to the residents. ● Collaborate with JYF leadership and Human Resources to ensure ongoing progressive discipline and the full accountability of staff behaviors. ● Orient new Youth Counselor, Shift Supervisor, and Control Room Monitor staff and provide ongoing training, support, and quality supervision. ● Ensure that all staff maintain training compliance as per ACS and OCFS mandates. ● Oversee the fiscal management of the facility with PEX/petty cash fund, clothing, purchasing, food ordering, household and personal hygiene supplies, etc. ● Work as part of a collaborative team which includes case planners, educators, clinicians, and nurses to support each youth as they work to meet their individual goals assessing during weekly treatment team meetings. ● Responsible for the appearance and safety of the facility. ● Assure that the agency vehicles are properly maintained. ● Schedule and maintain senior team meetings regularly. ● Share on-call responsibilities with Assistant Directors. ● Conduct pop-up visits of all tours. ● Ensure LSP complies with Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). ● Conduct weekly review of incident logs, camera reviews, MAR sheets and other facility related documents to ensure compliance. ● Other related tasks that may be assigned. Qualifications ● BA/BS/BSW in related field required Master degree preferred. ● 3-5 Years of management experience working directly with court-related youth in a residential setting. ● Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to maintain required documentation. ● Strong knowledge of ACS mandates and policies ● Strong knowledge of court-related youth population ● Strong knowledge of residential operations ● Prior experience with fiscal management preferred. ● Must be able to pass the required Safe Crisis Management (SCM) instructor training. Supervisory Responsibility: The Residence Manager will assume supervisory responsibilities for all assigned staff including FT Youth Counselors, Assistant Residence Managers, Control Room Staff (LSP only) and Per Diem Staff. Work Environment: The Residence Manager will be based out of their assigned residential location. The Residence Manager will work 5 days per week in person within JYF facilities. 1 remote day may be available based on approval by Director of Operations. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full time position, 35 hours per week. Although general hours will be 9AM-5PM the Residence Manager will need to be extremely flexible to fit the needs of the program, often work late evenings, weekends, holidays or as needed by the demand of the program. The Residence Manager will be available to staff/persons supported 24/7/365. Utilize and model the appropriate techniques and procedures of SCM. Ensure all staff maintain consistent application of trained interventions, procedures, and responses (e.g., behavior support plans use and youth debriefings procedures).
