We are seeking a dynamic, self-starting Public Relations & Communications Manager to support both internal and external brand communications. This individual will play a critical role in shaping the brand’s narrative, securing strong media placements, supporting influencer and social communications, and driving a cohesive messaging strategy that reflects the voice and values of J.McLaughlin. This role works closely with cross-functional partners and external PR agencies to amplify the brand across owned, earned, and shared channels. This role is primarily based in our corporate office in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. About the role Essential Functions: • Support and execute the overall communications strategy to elevate the J.McLaughlin brand across traditional and digital platforms, • Collaborate with the Head of Communications to craft and pitch compelling story angles to national, regional, and trade media outlets, • Cultivate and maintain strong media relationships across fashion, lifestyle, retail, and business press, • Write and edit press materials including releases, media alerts, fact sheets, talking points, and executive communications, • Develop and manage seasonal PR calendars and static communication plans that align with brand and marketing initiatives, • Partner with outside agencies to ensure consistent brand messaging and maximize coverage opportunities, • Collaborate with social media teams to support influencer outreach and organic storytelling on owned platforms, • Support internal communications efforts, ensuring consistency in tone, voice, and messaging across internal touchpoints, • Identify emerging PR trends, cultural moments, and new media opportunities for brand visibility This role is perfect for a thoughtful communicator with impeccable taste and a passion for brand storytelling. The ideal candidate is a connector and a doer—someone who is equally comfortable writing a press release, brainstorming a new media pitch, or briefing a stylist or editor on the nuances of our product and brand. Skills & Requirements: • Bachelors degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related preferred., • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in PR, communications, or media relations—preferably in fashion, lifestyle, or consumer brands, • Deep understanding of modern PR practices, media trends, and digital storytelling, • Excellent writing and editing skills with an ability to distill complex information into clear, engaging narratives, • Strong relationships with relevant fashion, lifestyle, and business media contacts, • Experience managing and collaborating with outside PR and influencer agencies, • A self-starter with high energy, creativity, and a solution-oriented mindset, • Passionate about the J.McLaughlin brand and the customer, • Strong aesthetic sensibility and understanding of brand voice and visual tone, • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer., • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. Job Description Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Work with Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor and Co-op City Times team to conceptualize, script and develop video news clips, features, short broadcasts, as well as other programming, that correspond with overall program objectives to inform, educate and promote community pride among shareholders., • Oversee all aspects of video production, including location scouting, setting up cameras, lighting and audio equipment, staging, filming and post-production., • Collaborate with Riverbay’s Technical and Electrical teams, among others, to manage, support, set-up and break down equipment at indoor and outdoor events, including live broadcast/streaming of monthly Riverbay Board of Directors meetings, annual Board election Candidates’ Forums, news conferences, community meetings and events on in-house TV channels and YouTube., • Troubleshoot and problem-solve technical issues during tapings and live broadcasts to ensure professional quality products., • Work with editors and other team members to finalize videos for publication, including editing, color correction, and sound., • Develop project timelines, budgets, coordinate available resources, identify operational gaps, and ensure projects stay on schedule., • Maintain clear and effective communication with supervisors throughout the production process., • Continuously research and implement new technologies and industry best practices to maximize efficiency., • Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Film & Media, Video Arts & Technology, Visual Communications, Digital Media or Journalism, • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in video production, photography, social media, copywriting and editing, and video and editorial project management, • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Adobe Media Encoder, Adobe After Effects a plus, • Knowledge of Mac computers a plus, • Available to work some evenings and weekends, • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time, • Excellent multi-tasker; ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven and often changing environment, • Strong interpersonal skills; writing, communications and organizational skills; stellar project management, • Understanding of industry best practices Persons performing service in this position classification may routinely exert up to 55 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
