Job Description JOB SUMMARY The purpose of this classification is to coordinate all points of contact technology related matters and address general technical support requests, under the direction of the Director of Information Technology. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Research, evaluate, and pilot emerging technologies that support the City’s strategic objectives., • Design and implement proof-of-concept initiatives to assess the feasibility and impact of new technologies., • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to understand operational challenges and recommend technology-driven solutions., • Support the development of smart city initiatives, including connected infrastructure, data platforms, and citizen-facing digital services., • Monitor industry trends, government technology standards, and regulatory developments to inform IT planning., • Provide technical expertise on digital innovation projects, including AI, IoT, cloud services, and automation., • Work with vendors, community stakeholders, and academic partners to explore innovation opportunities and build pilot partnerships., • Assist in the development of project proposals, business cases, and technical documentation for emerging technology initiatives., • Promote knowledge sharing and innovation culture within the IT department and other City Departments., • Ensure that all emerging technology initiatives align with data privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements., • Assists in developing and implementing long and short term plans, programs, goals, and objectives for the department; evaluates efficiency and effectiveness of department operations, programs, procedures, and use of resources; recommends and/or implements improvements as needed., • Assist with technology related training and exercises, • Assist the IT Director in developing and implementing the organization’s IT strategy., • Lead IT initiatives in alignment with organizational goals.., • Act as a key advisor on technology trends and risks., • Assist in Overseeing the day-to-day operations of IT systems, networks, help desk, and infrastructure., • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration within the IT team., • Lead or oversee major IT projects (e.g., system upgrades, software rollouts, infrastructure improvements)., • Collaborate with internal departments and vendors during project lifecycles., • Help conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies., • Serve as a liaison between IT and other departments or executive leadership. Education and Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related area; and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Qualifications: Must participate in regular continuing education activities as required to maintain level of certifications. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license with appropriate endorsement. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data using established criteria; ability to exercise discretion in determining actual or probable consequences and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives., • Ability to apply principles of persuasion and/or influence over others in coordinating activities of a project, program, or designated area of responsibility., • Ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments., • Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information., • Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; ability to utilize principles of fractions; ability to interpret graphs., • Ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems. The work is light which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound., • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes., • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers., • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely. Work is performed possible exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, fumes, smoke, hazardous materials, fire, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim light, toxic agents, disease, pathogenic substances, violence, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or explosives.
