Job Description NexGen and Transcend Surgery Center Assistant Director / Director of Nursing Position Summary The Assistant Director / Director of Nursing plays a key leadership role within our clinical teams. You will play a pivotal role in providing top-tier medical care while leading clinical operations for our nursing team. This position demands excellence in patient treatment, a strong focus on patient education, and leadership in optimizing the range of services that NexGen and Transcend offer, including and highlighting minimally invasive procedures. Key responsibilities include day-to-day operations of the operating rooms, managing staff, providing patient care, team mentorship, and clinical administration to ensure a cohesive, patient-centered environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership and Mentorship • Mentor and support clinical and administrative teams and other providers by offering guidance, training, and development opportunities., • Has responsibility for the surgery center as it relates to patient safety, patient care standards, and adherence to relevant regulatory and compliance standards., • Assumes direct management and administrative responsibility for the overall operation of the surgery center, including but not limited to hiring, education, evaluation, and management of nursing staff., • Assign tasks to LPNs, registered nurses, scrub techs, X-ray techs, and other OR personnel based on their skills and the surgical procedure., • Ensuring that all nurses are cross-trained in all aspects of circulating, scrubbing, Pre-Op, PACU, and positioning/operating of surgical equipment and machinery, • DON should be proficient in all aspects of all surgical services, including infection control and best practices for sterilization of equipment, • Overseeing the efficient workflow in the operating room, including room turnover and case scheduling., • Monitoring staff performance and addressing any concerns related to patient care., • Lead monthly staff meetings to review best practices, discuss patient care plans, and ensure departmental alignment., • Implements and reinforces action plans and goals that support staff inclusion, empowerment, and development., • Accountabilities include supporting patient outcomes relative to patient flow, clinical outcomes, patient engagement, overall clinical efficiency, and the delivery of culturally competent and consistent care in the surgical center., • Proactively manage position control. Review staffing needs on a weekly/monthly basis, actively work to ensure appropriate staffing. Patient Assessment and Treatment • Conduct comprehensive assessments and ensure all documentation is completed and in real time., • Collaborate with the Clinical and Business directors to improve patient education materials and treatment protocols., • Ensure pre-op and post-op areas are run efficiently and in line with clinical standards of care., • Review infection prevention protocols routinely with all staff. Patient Education and Communication • Educate patients on their conditions, all available treatment options, and limitations to promote realistic expectations and open communication., • Ensure staff is providing education to patients that allows for compliance and improved patient outcomes. Documentation, Quality, and Compliance • Complete patient documentation within NexGen/Transcend’s EMR system by the end of each shift., • Evaluate the quality of patient care through reports as well as by observations during rounding., • Performs daily chart reviews to ensure documentation compliance in all areas of responsibility and addresses fallouts timely with appropriate plans of correction., • Ensure all documentation is compliant and thorough to support timely claims submissions and ensure compliance with Federal, state, and local laws., • Protect patient information by adhering to HIPAA standards and using compliant communication tools (e.g., Slack, eCW)., • Monitors the personnel, supply, and equipment considerations to ensure compliance., • Participates in activities to correct deficiencies in patient care services., • Maintain a broad understanding of the regulatory environment to support compliance with requirements., • Serves as lead for infection prevention, ensuring compliance with all infection prevention guidelines Team Collaboration and Work Environment • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care in line with NexGen’s mission, vision, core values, and overall strategic plan., • Foster E R E C T culture, • Support direct reports to proactively address opportunities for improvements in patient experience/care and continuously monitor performance., • Engage actively in team meetings and continuing education to remain current with medical best practices., • Performs other related duties as assigned Community Engagement • Represent NexGen and Transcend professionally at public events to strengthen community ties and NexGen’s reputation. Work Schedule and Overtime • Follow an approved schedule: 40 hours per week for full-time employees and a minimum of 20 hours for part-time roles., • Rotating weekends according to the needs of the organization, • Overtime when needed, • Travel Requirement, • The ability to travel to various sites as required by the organization is a necessity QUALIFICATIONS Education and Licensure • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required., • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of New Jersey, • 5+ years of leadership/management experience preferred, • 2+ years of operating room / OR experience preferred Skills and Experience • Strong clinical assessment abilities to deliver comprehensive medical care and lead teams are necessary., • Proficiency with clinical documentation in both paper and EMR as well as familiarity with documentation standards and regulatory compliance in healthcare settings., • Critical thinking and problem-solving to optimize patient outcomes and operational efficiency., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient education and team collaboration., • Dedication to high-quality patient care and creating a positive work environment. Additional Leadership Qualifications • In-depth knowledge of NexGen and Transcend policies and procedures, with a responsibility to ensure department-wide compliance., • Ability to supervise support staff effectively, identifying areas for improvement and offering supportive guidance. Ability to perform performance evaluations, hire effective team members, etc., • Provide a quarterly department overview highlighting team member achievements in skill development and communication., • Submit a quarterly report with observations on patient cases and staff performance, including chart reviews, training recommendations, and areas for quality improvement., • Utilizes logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Physical Requirements, • Ability to perform physical tasks such as patient adjustments, lifting, and positioning., • Capacity to stand, walk, and engage in treatment sessions for extended periods., • Willingness to assist with moving supplies or equipment as necessary Core Values = E R E C T ● Empathy ● Respect ● Excellence ● Compassion ● Teamwork Compensation and Pay Transparency NexGen Orthopedic Health and Wellness intends to attract a best-in-class Director of Nursing. Actual base salary will depend on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for the successful candidate. The pay range for this role is 85K to 140K. Other rewards may/will include annual bonus, health insurance coverage, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
