Job DescriptionSalary: $19.00 Position Summary SQPA is seeking a part-time dynamic and energetic Creative Movement Dance Activity Specialist to lead engaging, age-appropriate dance and movement sessions for elementary-aged students at PS 35Q. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development, skilled in movement-based arts, and able to foster a supportive, joyful environment where students can explore self-expression, coordination, cultural awareness, and creativity. Key Responsibilities Program Delivery • Plan and facilitate structured creative movement and dance sessions for students grades K5., • Introduce students to a range of movement styles (e.g., creative movement, modern, hip-hop, Afro-Caribbean, foundational technique, choreography basics)., • Adapt activities for varying ages, abilities, and comfort levels., • Encourage creativity, teamwork, physical expression, and confidence-building., • Reinforce age-appropriate behavior expectations consistent with SQPA and DOE policies., • Develop weekly lesson plans and long-term project concepts (e.g., mini-performances, showcases, class demonstrations)., • Maintain a structured, well-managed learning environment., • Ensure proper room setup and cleanup for movement activities., • Follow all DOE and SQPA safety procedures, including attendance tracking, group transitions, and incident reporting., • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and planning sessions., • Collaborate with other specialists and group leaders for cross-content activities or showcase events. Qualifications • Experience in dance, creative movement, physical theater, or performing arts (teaching experience preferred)., • Passion for working with youth, particularly in afterschool or community-based settings., • Ability to design engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans., • Strong classroom management and communication skills., • Reliable, punctual, and able to work collaboratively within a team., • Must pass all required clearance checks and fingerprinting. Schedule & Compensation • Schedule: MondayFriday, approximately 2:30 PM6:00 PM (exact hours vary by program schedule)., • Summer employment during July and August is seasonal and optional for part-time program staff. Programming hours increase to approximately 35 hours per week. Staff being considered for summer roles will be asked to submit an employment intent form in advance, • Compensation: $19.00/hour About SQPA The Southern Queens Park Association provides high-quality youth, family, and community programming in Southeast Queens.
