Job Description General Manager – Food Pasteurization Facility (Linden, NJ) Company Overview We are a specialty food processing company based in Linden, NJ, providing pasteurization services for spices, nuts, and grains using advanced steam and vacuum chamber technology. Our facility operates under strict FDA and health department regulations, and we are proud to maintain a registered FSSC 22000 food safety and quality management system to meet the highest customer and industry standards. We are a small but highly skilled team of fewer than 25 employees, where every team member plays an important role. The General Manager will oversee all aspects of daily operations and report directly to the President. Position Summary The General Manager will be responsible for the leadership, efficiency, and compliance of the facility. This includes production, quality assurance, safety, maintenance coordination, human resources, and financial performance. The ideal candidate combines a strong background in microbiology and food safety systems with proven leadership and business management experience. Key Responsibilities Operations & Production • Oversee daily pasteurization operations for spices, nuts, and grains., • Manage production scheduling and ensure efficient resource use., • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to ensure equipment uptime and reliability., • Lead development and execution of the FSSC 22000 quality management system, with integration of ISO 9000 principles., • Ensure compliance with FDA and health department regulations., • Oversee process validation, including microbiology, pasteurization, and sterilization science., • Manage corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for customer complaints, product damage, and process non-conformities., • Manage budgeting, expense control, and P&L performance., • Contribute to customer pricing and cost management strategies., • Directly supervise office staff, forklift drivers, and material handlers., • Handle hiring, training, and performance management. Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related fields preferred (relevant experience considered in lieu of degree). • Minimum 5 years of experience in plant management, food processing, or related manufacturing environment., • Proven knowledge of FSSC 22000, ISO 9000, FDA, and food safety regulations., • Strong leadership skills with experience managing small to mid-sized teams., • Solid financial acumen, including budgeting and expense management., • Opportunity to lead operations in a specialized, highly regulated food safety facility., • Direct impact on company performance with close collaboration with ownership., • Small, collaborative team environment where your expertise makes a difference.
