Personal attendant duties focus primarily on direct client care and supervision. We are committed to providing compassionate, person-centered care while helping clients live safely and independently within their communities. Work Location: Multiple Locations throughout the San Diego Acknowledgement of Duties: I understand that I am a personal attendant as defined by the California Domestic Workers Bill of Rights. I understand that I will be providing services to the developmentally disabled through a state or regional center voucher program or clients receiving services under the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program. Because of the requirements of these programs, I am not able to receive daily overtime while working in this position. • Non-attendant duties include making beds, housecleaning, cooking, laundry, or other duties related to the maintenance of a private household or the premises. Non-attendant duties should be primarily conducted with the assistance of the person under care. Your responsibility is to assist the person under care in performing these duties themselves. You must not spend more than one hour per shift in the performance of these duties, unless the person under care is assisting you or you are supervising their performance of these tasks. If you spend more than one hour and a half (90-minutes) on non-attendant duties during an eight-hour shift, you must notify a supervisor immediately and communicate to the supervisor the amount of time you spent on non-attendant duties and why it was required. Your supervisor may provide you with additional instruction and supervision in performing your duties in the manner required by law. If you frequently spend more than 90-minutes a shift on non-attendant duties, you will be subject to discipline, up to and including the termination of your employment. Your job is to be a personal attendant, not a housekeeper. If the person under care or their family members instruct you to perform non-attendant duties, beyond minimal amounts, you must notify your supervisor. Although personal attendants are, by law, not entitled to a premium payment for missed meal or rest period, management understand that meal and rest periods allow personal attendants to relax, recover, and perform better in their jobs. You should be able to enjoy one ten-minute uninterrupted, duty-free rest period in the first and second half of your shift. If you are not regularly able to do so, you must notify your supervisor. Likewise, you should be able to enjoy an on-premises, duty-free meal period of at least 30 minutes. If you are unable to do so, you must notify your supervisor. Employees must not leave the customer’s premises during their meal or rest periods and must be able to provide immediate assistance to the customer if necessary. By signing below, I acknowledge that I have read and understand the job description and agree to fulfill the responsibilities outlined above, and I also agree to notify my supervisor when I am unable to fulfill those duties.
