Job Description Job Title: Night Assistant Team Leader Job Summary: CASES is seeking a Night Assistant Team Leader to provide overnight leadership that ensures safe, consistent, and high-quality program operations. This role supports frontline staff while facilitating successful releases and positive court outcomes and is ideal for a mission-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. CASES is a New York City–based nonprofit agency at the forefront of the intersection between behavioral health and the criminal justice system. Our mission is to increase public safety by reducing incarceration, improving behavioral health outcomes, and creating pathways to recovery, rehabilitation, and community success. The Court Services Department operates court-mandated and court-endorsed Alternative to Detention (ATD) and Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) programs in partnership with the New York State Office of Court Administration. CASES supports thousands of defendants across multiple boroughs each year through close collaboration with the courts and community stakeholders. Our teams screen approximately 10,500 individuals annually for diversion into ATD, ATI, Supervised Release, newSTART, and CASES’ community-based programs, including ROAR, NCS, and NACT. Salary: The salary for the Night Assistant Team Leader role is $79,000 - $83,000 per year. Shift Hours: This position is full-time working Saturday-Wednesday from 5pm to 1am. Location Address: 100 Centre Street, New York, NY 10003 Workplace Flexibility: On-site (for roles that are 100% in-office/in-person) What you will be doing: • Provide culturally competent oversight, supervision, and management in accordance with CASES policies and the delivery of excellent Court services to address the needs of youth, young adults, adults, individuals with behavioral health needs, and the race and ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and criminal justice history of defendants and program participants., • Supervise staff in the intricacies of Court procedures, and CASES programs, especially eligibility criteria., • Provide clinical supervision and training to staff and make recommendations for optimal efficiency of court procedures and engagement with stakeholders., • Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisors and Director., • Assist with Supervisory coverage for all different shifts works a regular and obscure schedule and adhere to schedule changes to ensure CASES consistently maintains coverage for all court shifts., • Maintain excellent professional relationships with Judges, District Attorneys, defense counsel, Probation, and other Court partners to facilitate program admissions and maintain CASES’ credibility in Court., • Review referrals to determine a person’s eligibility for CASES’ programs, including arrest case information, RAP sheet, attorney recommendations, and preliminary information about participant needs., • Engage potential participants and their legal representation in and around the Courtroom., • Undertake clinical screening interviews with potential participants to explain CASES’ program(s) to identify needs and suitability for CASES’ programs., • Assess acute clinical needs of participants and implement effective evidence-based strategies for participants to obtain such needs., • Ensure participants are matched to the appropriate CASES program based on assessed needs and eligibility., • Achieve monthly intake and other performance targets., • Accompany participants to all Court appearances and advocate to judges, verbally and through written Court reports, for participants to be enrolled or maintained in CASES’ services., • Complete all necessary intake paperwork, including entering participant information into the Salesforce databases., • Ensure participants understand the conditions of their release or plea agreement and expectations regarding participation in CASES program., • Collaborate with CASES colleagues in the community, who are providing services, to ensure the Court’s community supervision conditions are being met., • Provide timely notification to the Court when participants are not in compliance, have gone missing, failed to report as required, been rearrested., • Collect and track information on participants’ intake and re-arrest cases, as well as warrants., • Help ensure we maintain a safe working environment by reporting any hazards or unsafe conditions, e.g., liquid spill in hallway, to the appropriate facilities staff member or supervisor. What we are looking for: • Master's degree in social work or related field required, • License LMSW LMHC preferred, • At least three years of experience in human services with individuals with serious mental illness and those with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders, • At least two years supervisory/ management experience, • Ability to mentor and provide concrete, constructive feedback toothers, • Knowledge of the NYC criminal justice system, court processes and diversion services and sensitivity to issues facing justice-involved individuals, • Experience understanding family systems based on diversity of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, • Experience understanding various evidence-based models and theories pertaining to psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, serious mental illness and recovery, • Proven ability to function effectively in a high paced and stressful environment, • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of participants and staff, • Ability to quickly gather and evaluate the accuracy of information and use good judgement within time constraints and high-volume courtrooms, • Excellent public speaking skills.
