Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Safety Security Officer DEPARTMENT: Housing and Services FLSA: Non-Exempt LOCATION: Queens, NY SALARY: $19.65 Hourly SUMMARY: Westhab is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals to join our Security Department. The Safety Security Officer is responsible for performing a variety of specialized assignments in a homeless shelter and apartment buildings. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Ensure safety and security of clients, staff and property in and around the facility., • Make hourly rounds throughout entire facility; monitor cameras as assigned for surveillance; Check all doors hourly, including fire exits., • Interact with and monitor clients/client families; maintain good rapport with clients and encourage clients to comply with facility policy and procedures., • Intervene to de-escalate potential crisis situations, domestic violence and abuse, document all such situations and interventions., • Complete logs, incident reports and all other required documentation., • Make calls to CPS as directed, complete follow up reports., • Monitor traffic at the front desk; handle switchboard and reception area., • Provide duties related to fire incident, evacuation of the building when necessary, utilizing Fire procedure., • Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment. High school diploma or GED and prior security experience required. Must have NYS Security Guard License, and current 8 Hour Annual Certificate. Fire Guard License for Shelters preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred. Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends and overtime if necessary. Job Description Job Type: Shift Supervisor FSLA Classification: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Program Operations Location: Jamaica, Queens, NY Hourly rate: $27.47 - $30.21 Objective: Lantern Community Services is seeking a dedicated and motivated Shift Supervisor for our new men’s shelter, Liberty Plaza, located in Jamaica Queens. Shift Supervisors are responsible for a variety of specialized assignments in a homeless shelter; in addition, experience in site management and staff supervision is needed as well as previous experience in working with clients with mental health issues. The shift supervisor will report to the Director of Program Operations. Shift Supervisors will oversee designated operations of the shelter, supervising a team of Residential Aides and working in coordination with Social Services, Maintenance and Security Staff. Essential Functions: • Oversee all shelter operational tasks during operating hours including bed signing procedures, supply issuance, meal rosters, property storage, locker inspections, daily dorm inspections, facility logbook, incident submission, etc., • Supervise a team of Residential Aides to ensure safe and efficient provision of services to all clients and staff., • Ensure all clients have timely access to client services (meals, laundry, toiletries, medications, etc.), • Lead subordinates in Safe Crisis Management techniques and other crisis management models., • Ensure appropriate document processing of new and returning clients, (i.e., submit to DHS for approval and bed assignment), • Oversee bed sign-ins, curfew checks and vacancy reporting in CARES., • Work collaboratively with Maintenance, Security, Vendors and Emergency Responders on site., • Monitor video surveillance cameras, and fire prevention / detection alarm notification system., • Complete assigned paperwork responsibilities (i.e., Log, incident reports, DHS reports and all other reports), • Assist Facility Manager, preparing and executing fire drills (as well as fires) or in other cases., • High School Diploma, GED, or HSE is required, • 3 years shelter experience as an RA, CM, etc. with 1 year of supervisory experience, • Possession of a valid Food Handler’s License, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire, is required., • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team to complete complex projects in a fast-paced environment., • Must be capable and comfortable with crisis management., • Computer proficiency with proficiency in Word, Excel and the ability to learn new technologies and databases., • F-80 Fire Safety Coordinator certification, required (or ability to obtain F 80 certification), • NYC Food Handlers Certificate or ability to obtain in 2 months., • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred., • Exhibit empathy towards the serviced population., • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral & written), • Preferred CPR/First Aid Certification Work Environment: This job operates in a shelter environment and works with a population who may experience mental illness, substance use, disability, HIV/AIDS, and other chronic illnesses. Job DescriptionPRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE: The Shift/Safety Supervisor is directly responsible for the management and supervision of the Safety Monitors on duty on their assigned shift. Monitors all activities to ensure safety in the physical plant and civility amongst clients, visitors and staff. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Supervises Safety Monitors and ensures all safety and security duties are performed as per agency protocol., • Conducts fire drills and documents results., • Responds to incidents and follows DHS and agency protocols in responding to and documenting incidents., • Reports incidents of Child Abuse to the state Central Registry., • Interacts with HERO and provides updates on unit vacancies and occupancies. Accepts referrals and conducts initial intake of new families upon arrival to the facility., • Answer facility phone and directs calls., • Ensures that Safety Monitors conduct patrols and are monitoring the CCTV camera system and are reporting and documenting observations., • Assists Safety Monitors in ensuring that clients follow shelter rules while in the facility., • Trains Safety Monitors in security measures and recommends changes in procedures/equipment to the Manager of Building Operations., • Other duties as assigned. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: • Conduct daily audit of both the Safety Monitor's Desk Log, and the Supervisor's Desk Log for accuracy and content., • Prepares/conducts Employee Appraisal Evaluations in a timely and thorough manner., • Prepares and audits Incident/Accident Reports., • Maintain and schedule vans daily usage., • Completes end of shift reports and emails report to Manager of Operations, the Program Director and DSS/Asst.
