Russell Tobin's client, an American specialty retail company, is hiring an Assistant Designer – Swimwear in New York, NY. Assistant Designer – Swimwear Location: New York City (Onsite) Duration: 12-Week Contract Pay Rate: Up to 37.93/hour We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Assistant Designer – Swimwear to support the design team in developing commercially successful swim collections. This role is ideal for someone with a strong fashion eye, technical design expertise, and a passion for trend-driven product development in a fast-paced retail environment. Key Responsibilities • Create commercial, brand-right swimwear designs aligned with seasonal concepts and business strategy, • Develop product designs with strong attention to style, fit, fabric, print, and color, • Execute sketches, prototypes, and technical specifications with accuracy and speed, • Create and maintain detailed tech packs, BOMs, and construction details, • Update linesheets throughout the season, ensuring all information remains accurate, • Research trends, competitors, and market opportunities to inspire new ideas, • Collaborate cross-functionally with Merchandising, Marketing, Product Development, Graphics, and Color teams, • Present design concepts and seasonal updates to leadership and internal partners, • Incorporate feedback into designs and support finalization processes, • Help mentor and support junior design talent, • Bachelor’s degree in Design or equivalent experience, • 3+ years of design experience within a retail or fashion environment, • Strong understanding of swimwear construction, fit, fabrics, and styling, • Proven ability to create original sketches and commercially successful products, • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, InDesign, and Microsoft Office, • Experience with Centric PLM is a plus, • Strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills, • Highly organized, creative, and solutions-oriented, • Passion for fashion, trend research, and product innovation, • Fully onsite position, • Company laptop/equipment provided, • Immediate hiring timeline, • One interview process with the hiring manager, • Project-based role supporting increased workload demand Russell Tobin is a leading minority-owned professional and technical recruitment and staffing advisory organization.
