Position Purpose As a Commercial Credit Underwriter, you will play a critical role in supporting our commercial lending team by assessing the financial strength and repayment capacity of prospective and existing business members. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with internal teams and external partners. Your work will help safeguard the credit union’s member business portfolio while delivering exceptional service to our members. Requirements: Position Responsibilities • Deliver timely, thorough, and well-reasoned credit analysis of prospective and existing commercial borrowers, including evaluation of financial condition, global cash flow, debt service capacity, financial trends, management strength, and collateral support., • Prepare, analyze, and author financial statement spreads, credit approval memorandums, and loan modifications for current and potential borrowers., • Deliver timely, accurate, annual reviews and quality grade change recommendations on required credits as directed by credit policy. Monitor periodic loan/financial covenants to determine compliance, notifying appropriate parties of non-compliance. Clear technical exceptions in credit files in a timely manner., • Maintain complete credit files on all loans and reviews files to determine that loans have been properly documented with respect to collateral, guarantor, insurance coverage, regulatory requirements and the terms and conditions of approvals to ensure compliance responsibilities are met., • Assist in the preparation of problem loan reports on adversely graded borrowers and assist in loan workouts as appropriate., • Review and analyze third party reports such as appraisals, environmental reports, and credit bureau reports. May order appraisals and appraisal reviews for the credit union., • Partner with the loan officers to obtain the necessary data from the borrower to conduct the analysis., • Ensure the confidentiality, security, and safekeeping of all accounts, records, and member information to ensure quality member service., • Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to the requirements of all federal, state, and local laws, including those of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), as it specifically relates to the job functions., • Embeds diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility (DEIBA) into your daily workflow., • May be required to perform certain follow-up duties requiring visits or phone calls to member’s place of business., • Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned. Position Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in the areas of business, finance, or accounting and three (3) or more years’ experience as an Commercial Credit Underwriter, Commercial Portfolio Manager and/or other equivalate or related combination of education and experience., • Broad knowledge of credit principles and commercial lending best practices., • Proficient in credit risk analysis, loan underwriting, cash flow analysis, and financial statement spreading., • Proficiency with financial spreading software (e.g. CreditQuest, Moody’s Risk Analyst, Sageworks/Abrigo)., • Demonstrated expertise in accurately balancing diverse accounts by applying mathematical, accounting, and bookkeeping skills, with a strong ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve inaccuracies., • Intermediate knowledge of various commercial borrowing entity structures to obtain correct and accurate loan structures to fully protect TAPCO’s interests in credit relationships. Experience reading legal documentation., • Intermediate understanding of underwriting criteria, credit policies, loan documentation and collateral securing process., • Experience analyzing and interpreting a wide variety of written, oral, and visual information from a variety of sources, including financial institutions, vendors, and bank regulators., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; proven ability to work in a team environment, learn quickly, and apply knowledge as needed., • Knowledge of state/federal business lending rules and regulations governing commercial real estate loans and lines of credit., • Proven ability to prioritize work, follow directions, meet critical deadlines, produce accurate work and work independently. May include some remote work flexibility, as authorized by management., • Intermediate to advanced level knowledge with Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint)., • Ability to uphold confidentiality and member’s privacy in all situations., • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience as a Commercial Credit Underwriter, Commercial Portfolio Manager and/or other equivalate or related combination of education and experience., • Formal commercial credit program training., • The work environment is an office setting, and in-person, • Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers., • Frequently required to sit and stand for longer periods of time. All newly hired employees at TAPCO Credit Union are subject to a 90-day introductory period beginning on their first day of employment. This period is intended to provide structure, clarity, coaching, and support while employees learn their role and the organization. Completion of the introductory period does not guarantee continued employment or change the at-will employment relationship. Salary: Starting at $80,168.40 - $85,250.00 (depending on experience).
