Job DescriptionJob Title: Picker Job Description The Picker is responsible for safely discarding, sorting, and removing products and materials to ensure they meet established specifications, while consistently following Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. This role involves physically demanding work in an industrial scrap yard environment and requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work area. Responsibilities • Discard, remove, and sort products and materials to ensure adherence to established specifications and quality standards., • Perform general labor tasks such as picking, sorting, sweeping, and cleaning in a scrap yard environment., • Handle, grasp, push, and pull materials and tools continually to support daily operations., • Stand for extended periods and walk frequently on uneven ground while performing repetitive tasks., • Use visual acuity to perform close detail work and identify materials accurately., • Follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions to complete assigned tasks correctly and efficiently., • Work independently while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and continuous situational awareness., • Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, and face shields., • Operate within confined spaces and at heights when required, following safety protocols., • Communicate effectively using basic English to understand and relay work instructions and safety information., • Maintain good attendance and reliability to support consistent workflow and team operations., • Adapt to unpredictable workloads, peak-period pressures, and critical deadlines while maintaining safe work practices., • Comply with all site rules related to industrial safety, including working around noise, fumes, dirt, and other physical hazards., • Drive an automobile as needed, using a valid driver’s license, to support job-related tasks within site requirements.Essential Skills, • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally., • Ability to stand on feet for the entire shift and perform repetitive work., • Ability to crouch, stoop, and bend at the knees and waist frequently to increase visibility while sorting or picking., • Ability to climb occasionally to reach the work site and work comfortably at heights., • Ability to reach at arm’s length and overhead frequently., • Ability to twist and turn at the neck and trunk frequently while working., • Ability to walk frequently on uneven ground in a scrap yard environment., • Ability to handle and grasp materials and tools continually., • Ability to push and pull frequently when sweeping, cleaning, or moving materials., • Sufficient visual acuity for close detail work and accurate material identification., • Mental dexterity to work independently while maintaining attention to detail and continuous awareness., • Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form., • Ability to speak and understand English at a basic level., • Ability to learn new tasks as assigned., • Comfort working in dirty environments and not being allergic to dust and dirt., • Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights., • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive an automobile., • Strong attendance and reliability.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working in a scrap yard or similar industrial environment is preferred., • Experience with industrial safety practices and assembly line or repetitive work environments is beneficial., • Demonstrated attention to detail in sorting, picking, or inspection tasks., • Familiarity with general labor tasks such as picking, sorting, and cleaning in an industrial setting.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a scrap yard environment and is regularly exposed to all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind. Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, dirt, and scrap materials are present due to the use of equipment and machinery typical of a scrap yard. The position requires working around industrial equipment, uneven ground, and potentially confined spaces and heights. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with a start time between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. depending on operational needs (with an 8:00 a.m. start on the first day). Workload can be unpredictable, and pressure may increase during peak times, with critical deadlines requiring adaptability. Disturbances in workflow and irregularities in the work schedule can occur intermittently, and extra hours may occasionally be required on weekdays and weekends. Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and other personal protective equipment must be worn as required to mitigate risks. The environment is industrial and dirty, with dust and dirt present, and the role involves standing for long periods, performing repetitive tasks, and engaging in physically demanding labor throughout the shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tacoma, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
