Job DescriptionStatement of Duties The Recreation Laborer Aide is responsible for the oversight of recreational activities year-round. This includes activities for children, adults, seniors, and other special citizens of Somerville. Works with various populations of the Somerville community in connecting them to the appropriate resources. Includes setting up and breaking down the up facilities after use for special events, including weekends, holidays, and evenings. Works collaboratively with Parks & Recreation team in providing quality programing. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. • Work with Somerville Parks and Recreation Counselor and Supervisor to guide youth in a variety of Parks and Recreation activities specifically but not limited to sports, arts and crafts, drama, music, DJ programs, STEM programs, Recreation special events and teen center programs., • Under the P&R Supervisor’s guidance help set up areas for special events and programs., • Works one on one with youth participants and assists them during program activities., • Assist P&R Counselors with cleaning, setting up and breaking down program materials, storing supplies, and putting away all equipment etc., • Reports any issues or concerns that may arise to the P&R Supervisor or Program Coordinator., • 0-1+ years of experience interacting with people of various ages with diverse backgrounds; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Knowledge, Abilities and Skill: Knowledge: Knowledge of rules, practices, techniques and equipment used in a wide range of recreation activities. Ability: Ability to work within a team. Work Environment The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours in response to attend evening meetings or complete work assignments. Work in the field involves regular exposure to outside elements. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Teen Engagement, the Peer Leadership Fellows Wellness Cohort Coordinator is responsible for the management of the Peer Wellness Cohort of the Peer Leadership Fellows, a national model for peer-to-peer relational engagement and empowering teens to reduce stigma within the Jewish community and among their peers around mental health and wellness. The Peer Wellness Cohort Coordinator works in partnership with the Director of Teen Programs and the Assistant Director of Teen Engagement serving a premiere group of teen leaders, selected through a coordinated application process each spring, representing communities throughout Greater Boston. The Coordinator’s responsibilities include facilitation of monthly workshops, working with Fellows in grades 9 through 12, and involvement in strategic decisions for the program as a whole. Under the direction of Director of Teen Programs, the Jewish Teen Foundation of Greater Boston (JTFGB) Program Coordinator will be responsible for execution of monthly workshops. The facilitator will be responsible for designing curriculum, maintaining active participation by participants throughout the year, developing stimulating and meaningful group experiences and evaluating each group session. Curriculum will focus on a grant-making learning experience through the lens of Jewish values. Under the Direction of the Locker Room Manager, the Men’s Health Center attendant is responsible for maintaining the services and amenities for Men’s Health Center Members. In accordance with the JCC’s standards, the Men’s Health Center Attendant will ensure cleanliness of the Men’s Health Center, manage supplies, maintain clean towel supply, and provide professional customer service to members, as well as effective communication with staff members. The Men’s Health Center functions successfully when each individual works consistently in the performance and completion of daily responsibilities. Working a flexible schedule with opportunities year-round, the Pool Lifeguard works at our indoor and outdoor pools in the summer, shifting to indoors only the rest of the year. Job DescriptionStatement of Duties Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor and Program Coordinator, the P&R Counselor is responsible for the direct supervision of program participants and P&R Aides. The P&R Counselor is also responsible for the implementation of age-appropriate activities. The P&R Counselors are expected to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
