Job DescriptionJob Title: Yard & Gate Operator Job Overview We’re seeking a reliable Yard & Gate Operations Specialist to help manage the daily movement of trucks and trailers throughout our yard. This role is hands‑on and fast‑paced, requiring someone who can stay organized, work well outdoors, and keep operations flowing smoothly during busy periods. You’ll use a simple iPad-based application to log trailers, upload photos, and enter SKUs. Training is provided, and there is room to grow as the company expands. Key Responsibilities • Oversee trailer check‑ins and direct drivers to the correct staging or repair areas., • Use a forklift for yard movement (approximately 75% trailer processing / 25% forklift work, depending on the day)., • Spot basic mechanical concerns as equipment arrives and route trailers to the proper repair stations., • Perform FMCSA and BIT safety checks once trained., • Operate heavy lift equipment and a yard tractor to support shop and yard functions., • Manage in‑gate and out‑gate workflows using our digital gate system., • Maintain clear communication with yard teammates and external service providers., • Ensure traffic never obstructs public roads and help maintain a smooth, organized yard layout.What We’re Looking For, • Able to stay calm and effective during high‑volume or short‑staffed situations., • Comfortable operating a large 36‑ton forklift or willing to learn., • Working understanding of mechanical systems to identify obvious trailer issues., • Strong communication skills and a customer-friendly attitude., • Good judgment, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.Preferred Skills & Experience, • Interest in learning welding or torch-based repair techniques—training available., • Experience or willingness to operate heavy lift equipment and yard tractors., • Ability to answer behavioral questions about handling stressful past situations., • Not hesitant to ask questions when unsure., • Basic hand tools (sockets, wrenches, impact gun) a plus.Why You’ll Love Working Here, • Supportive, team-oriented environment where leadership stays involved in daily operations., • Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)., • Annual merit-based raises and performance reviews., • Opportunities to learn new technical skills, including welding and training partnerships with the Machinists Institute., • A collaborative, family-style atmosphere where your voice matters.Work Environment, • Outdoor-based role—rain, shine, or seasonal weather., • Hands-on, equipment-focused work in a small shop setting., • Access to well-maintained facilities: break room, locker rooms, and computer stations., • Participation in monthly safety meetings where everyone contributes. This is a Contract position based out of Seattle, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
