Job Description Digital Content & Communications Specialist $70,000 - $75,000 annually | Remote (Southern California-Based) Join the Communications and Marketing team at the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) and help shape how one of the nation's largest trade associations connects with its members and the public. We're seeking a creative, digitally savvy communicator who can turn complex topics into clear, engaging content across social media, video, digital publications, and emerging communications channels. The ideal candidate is equal parts writer, strategist, and content creator. You'll have the opportunity to create a wide variety of digital content while helping make complex information clear, engaging, and accessible for diverse audiences. What You'll Be Doing Social Media Strategy, Creation and Community Engagement • Plan, create, design, and publish platform-specific social media content that advances C.A.R. priorities, member value and public positioning., • Produce a high volume of engaging social assets, including short-form video, reels, stories, carousels, graphics, captions, live or event coverage, and timely issue-based posts., • Write strong hooks, headlines, captions and calls to action tailored to each channel, audience and stage of engagement., • Monitor platform conversations, trends and emerging formats; identify responsible opportunities for timely participation while protecting brand voice and credibility., • Coordinate social content calendars, approvals, asset collection and cross-department inputs;, • Apply accessibility and brand standards, including readable design, captions, alt text and appropriate content formatting., • Monitor trends, audience conversations, and platform performance to identify opportunities and improve results. Digital-First Content and New Storytelling • Create content with digital audiences in mind from the start rather than repurposing existing materials – although that may be needed occasionally. Choose the format, content, design, and platform that best meets the audience's needs., • Turn complex information into clear, easy-to-understand content that can be shared across websites, social media, videos, presentations, and member resources., • Create new ways to tell stories using mobile-friendly, interactive, video, and other emerging digital formats., • Interview internal and external subject-matter experts and identify the key messages, facts, examples, and visuals that will be most useful to the audience., • Partner with writers, designers, video producers, and program leads to create cohesive multimedia content from concept through publication., • Maintain editorial accuracy, source discipline, legal or policy review requirements, REALTOR® trademark use and C.A.R. brand consistency., • Repurpose content strategically across channels without losing platform relevance or audience value. Data Visualization and Information Design • Turn C.A.R. research, survey results, market data, and program metrics into clear, engaging stories that are easy to understand., • Create charts, infographics, dashboards, presentation graphics, social media graphics, and other visual assets that improve understanding of complex information., • Work with data experts and content owners to make sure the information, calculations, and key messages are accurate before publishing., • Create reusable templates and design standards that make data projects faster, more consistent, and easier to access., • Adapt charts and graphics so they work well across mobile, web, email, social media, presentations, and print materials. Measurement, Innovation and Workflow Improvement • Monitor content performance and prepare concise reports that connect results to communication objectives and recommend next actions., • Use A/B testing, audience signals and channel analytics to improve creative decisions and strengthen engagement over time., • Research and safely test emerging social, visualization, content creation and AI-enabled tools that can improve quality, speed or personalization., • Follow C.A.R. review, privacy, copyright, records and responsible-use requirements when using digital and AI tools., • Maintain organized files, content inventories, source documentation, templates and project status updates. Required Qualifications: Education • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, Design, Data Visualization, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. Experience • 2 to 4 years of professional experience creating digital and social content, preferably in a newsroom, association, public affairs, research, marketing or mission-driven environment., • A portfolio demonstrating social media execution, digital-first storytelling and data visualization., • Experience creating short-form video and platform-native social assets; comfort appearing behind or, when appropriate, in front of the camera is a plus., • Experience in an association, public affairs, research, media, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization. Skills & Qualifications • Demonstrated digital fluency and hands-on ability to create, publish and optimize content across major social platforms and content management systems., • Strong news judgment, audience awareness and ability to identify the clearest, most compelling story within complex information., • Excellent writing, editing and visual communication skills, with the ability to shift voice and format by audience and channel., • Proficiency with social publishing and analytics tools; content management systems; presentation software; and modern design, visualization and video-editing tools., • Working knowledge of data visualization principles, chart selection, information hierarchy, source citation and quality-control practices., • Familiarity with accessibility practices for digital content, including captions, alt text, color contrast and mobile-friendly design., • Ability to use AI-enabled tools thoughtfully for ideation, drafting, transcription, editing, design exploration or workflow efficiency while applying human review and organizational standards., • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel; ability to learn new software quickly.
