Role Overview: Accounting Supervisor ensures the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger at Suffolk Credit Union. Oversees the reconciliation of financial activity and ensures timely, accurate financial reporting. Key Responsibilities: * Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable regulations by compiling, analyzing, and reporting financial data accurately and on time. * Reviews, approves, and evaluates the work of the AP Specialist and other staff, including oversight of daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations. * Serves as the primary point of contact for branches and departments, assisting with transactions, reconciliations, online banking, and teller discrepancies. * Prepares investment purchase and sale tickets, records monthly journal entries, and compiles investment reporting packages for the VP/Controller. * Posts and reconciles all CUSO-related activity, prepares month-end journal entries, and produces related financial statements. * Processes and reconciles share charge-offs and recoveries, ensuring accurate classification and reporting. * Prepares, posts, and reconciles Credit Union activity, including lease payments, mortgage funding, FHLB and FRB dividends, and CECL-related entries. * Assists with month-end close processes, including accrual postings and general ledger maintenance. * Investigates and resolves income statement variances, including month-over-month and actual-to-budget discrepancies. * Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports for management and the Board of Directors, including the quarterly 5300 report. * Provides cross-functional support by backing up departmental staff and contributing to special projects as needed. * Supports audit readiness and organizational goals by achieving satisfactory audit results and completing additional duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related discipline • Three to five years of accounting experience, preferably in financial reporting or general ledger accounting, • Knowledge of financial and accounting theory, • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Practices, • Fundamental knowledge of the financial industry including an understanding of the Federal Reserve System, the check clearing process, and the legal theory of negotiable instruments, • Knowledge of credit union products, services, policies, regulations and procedures, • Ability to communicate and relate accounting procedures to non-accounting staff, • Knowledge of accounting systems, financial analysis software, and electronic delivery systems, • Demonstrated computer and software skills, • Proficient skill with using and analyzing data with spreadsheet software, • Ability to handle multiple and complex deadlines, • Ability to express oneself clearly and articulately both orally and in writing, • Skill in gathering, analyzing and compiling complex financial and statistical data, • Skill with independent problem-solving, • Ability to exercise tact and responsibility with handling confidential information, • Ability to lead or mentor other departmental staff, • Must be able to function in a normal office environment with frequent interruptions by other employees, • Must be able to sit frequently and use repetitive hand motions for typing, • Must be able to communicate through speaking and hearing, and use visual acuity for reporting and presenting information to other employees, credit union members, and/or vendors and other third party members Suffolk Credit Union provides equal employment opportunities to all applicants and prohibits discrimination of any type on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, age, sex or gender (including pregnancy, childbirth and pregnancy-related conditions), gender identity or expression (including transgender status), sexual orientation, marital status, military service and veteran status, physical or mental disability, genetic information or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state or local laws.
