Job Description Anti-Violence Services Advocate In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) Albany, NY | Full-Time | On-Site Reports to: Director of Anti-Violence Services Who We Are In Our Own Voices, Inc. We show up where systems have failed our communities and build what’s needed for us to survive and thrive. Our Anti-Violence Services (AVS) program is rooted in liberation, healing, and justice. We provide survivor-centered, culturally responsive support to LGBTQ+ survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and all forms of interpersonal and systemic violence—while actively working to dismantle the conditions that make that violence possible. Position Summary The Anti-Violence Services Advocate is a frontline role grounded in compassion, urgency, and accountability to the community. This position provides trauma-informed crisis response, advocacy, and resource navigation for LGBTQ+ survivors—centering Black, Brown, Trans, and historically marginalized voices. This is more than direct service. This is about standing in the gap, challenging systems, and walking alongside survivors on their journey toward safety, healing, and self-determination. What You’ll Do Crisis Response & Direct Support Provide immediate, trauma-informed support to survivors in crisis through hotline calls, walk-ins, and emergency response Conduct safety planning and crisis intervention rooted in dignity and respect Support access to emergency shelter, transitional housing, and long-term housing stability Accompany survivors to court, hospitals, and interactions with law enforcement, ensuring they are never alone in critical moments Advocacy & Resource Navigation Connect survivors to culturally competent legal, medical, mental health, and financial resources Support survivors in defining and achieving their goals on their own terms Advocate through a lens of racial, gender, and economic justice Program Coordination & Documentation Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely case records Enter data in alignment with funder and compliance requirements Support program reporting, outcomes tracking, and continuous improvement Training, Outreach & Community Engagement Facilitate support groups, healing spaces, and community-based workshops Provide LGBTQ+ cultural competency trainings to external partners and systems Engage in coalitions and community efforts to end gender-based violence Collaboration & Mission Alignment Work across IOOV programs to ensure survivors receive holistic, wraparound care Uphold IOOV’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and unapologetic advocacy What You Bring Required Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, or related field, or equivalent lived and professional experience At least 1–2 years of experience in advocacy, crisis response, or case management Experience supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or related violence Knowledge of housing systems, safety planning, and community resources Strong communication, organization, and time management skills Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation Preferred Bilingual Spanish/English Experience facilitating groups, workshops, or community trainings Familiarity with trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and LGBTQ+ affirming practices Why IOOV At IOOV, you are not just taking a job—you are stepping into purpose.
