Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 10/13/2025, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 48 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel General Information Unit Name: D3N- Progressive Critical Care Unit Unit Specifics: • Number of Beds : 17, • Unit staffing description- 3:1, 2:1 patient assignment. Core staffing for 7 RNs, 2 PCAs, and one ASA (unit secretary)., • Type of equipment : Spacelab bedside cardiac monitoring, arterial lines, EVD, non-invasive ventilatory support (bipap, cpap, hfnc), EKOS., • Documentation system: EPIC, • Scheduling requirements: every other weekend, 3 UTs allowed per contract, weekend shift make up policy., • Floating policy: to care areas with like-populations. AMC has an internal float team that assists in filling staffing needs. Certifications: Academic Medical Center, Level 1 trauma center adult and peds. Hiring profile Requested Skill Set: High acuity, medically unstable patient population. Patients served suffer from a range of disorders including but not limited to respiratory/pulmonary, endocrine/diabetes, GI, ortho/trauma, multi-surgical specialties, and neuro. Must have: PCCU is designed to provide specialized care to the acute and chronically ill surgical and medical patient population 18 years of age and older and trauma patient population 15 years of age and older. Specialized medical and nursing care is provided to patients with serious conditions including but not limited to elective and urgent surgical procedures, trauma, traumatic brain injury, spinal injury, stroke, sepsis, heart failure, respiratory disturbances, electrolyte imbalance, GI bleeding, coagulopathy, renal disease, drug overdose, and hemodynamic instability. Nursing care focuses on care requirements that involve a higher frequency of surveillance, assessment and intervention than can be provided on a general medical surgical unit. Advanced skills needed: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, critical lab value interpretation, Electrolyte replacement and DKA protocols, CIWA management, NIHSS stroke screening, monitoring of the critically ill patient. Management of patient on neosynephrine, levophed, dopamine, precedex, heparin, and other medications in these classes. Procedures performed on unit: EVD, NT suctioning, wound vacs, JP drains, hemovacs, sedative drips, vasoactives, EKOS machines, vascular sheaths. NIHSS preferred, PCCN or CCRN strongly encouraged.
