Role Overview We are looking for Senior Associates to join our specialist team, where you will provide quality accounting and auditing services to our clients. What You'll Be Doing • Perform as an auditor in the Charity Team, working with a wide range of not-for-profit organisations, including charities (social, religious, welfare, international development, healthcare etc.) and educational organisations (academies, further education colleges and Higher Education Institutes)., • Carry out all audit work in compliance with the firm's and statutory procedures., • Prepare accounts, including consolidated accounts, from both manual and computerised accounting records., • Provide general accounting services and assistance to clients in the preparation of accounts, for example preparing working papers., • Recommend improvements to the clients' accounting systems and controls, assisting when needed., • Undertake the planning of the audit in accordance with auditing standards and the firm's own approach and methodology., • Complete the audit file, including clearance of outstanding matters and review points; drafting of Audit Highlights Memorandum, management letter and letter of representation; and the completion of finalisation checklists., • Brief, supervise and review the work of junior members of the team, providing constructive feedback and support as necessary, including preparation of formal review forms (where required by the team's feedback systems)., • Control work-in-progress and assist Managers in raising fee notes as early as possible during every assignment., • Assist Partners and Managers in the Charity Team in attracting new work including meeting potential new clients, preparing budgets and proposals and creating marketing documents., • Keep up to date with auditing and accounting standards and developments within the profession. Following a recent review of the finance department this established group of companies is seeking to strengthen the team by appointing a Senior Financial Accountant. This is an opportunity for talented, high performing and ambitious Senior Manager to join the Corporate Reporting Advisory Team (CRT) in the Audit Quality Department (AQD) in an exciting period, to help to shape the role and the expanding team. You will report into the Team Partners and work closely with Directors. General responsibilities • Work with Managers, Senior Managers, Directors and Partners within both AQD, the Audit Stream and across the wider firm, • Maintain and encourage an open and constructive environment in which to provide technical accounting support and advice, • Bring pre-existing financial services specialist technical accounting knowledge (this might be Banking and Alternative Finance, Fintech or Insurance focused), and experience to the CRT team and contribute to all output areas, • Provide support and supervision to the more junior team members. Specific responsibilities The individual will support the CRT Directors and other members of AQD, ultimately reporting to the AQD lead partners and will be responsible for the following: • Technical review of a personal portfolio of annual reports of publicly traded and other higher risk companies, working with the audit team to confirm compliance with financial reporting standards, company legislation and regulatory requirements, • Providing clear and practical solutions to the most complex technical financial reporting queries, and act as a consultant for the more junior members of the team in your specialist area, • Preparing and presenting financial reporting training, updates and seminars both internally and externally, • Helping to develop financial reporting tools and guidance for application by the firm’s partners and staff, • Writing articles and other publications on financial reporting matters for internal and external communications, • Assisting with the preparation of draft responses to external consultations in relation to legal, regulatory and financial reporting matters, • Monitoring external developments in financial reporting areas and, specifically in your specialist area, reporting back to the team and developing an appropriate action plan where required, • Supporting and coaching the more junior members of the CRT and wider AQD team. The role would be particularly suited to an individual with experience of working within the technical department of another major firm of accountants, or an experienced auditor who is looking to move into a technical role and is able to demonstrate a strong technical aptitude. The right candidate for this role will: • Be ACA/ICAS qualified or overseas equivalent, • Be a Senior Manager in a technical team or have other relevant experience in technical financial reporting, • Exhibit a strong working knowledge of:, • IFRSs, UK GAAP, and the Companies Act, • Sector specialism for financial services, particularly Banking and Alternative Finance, Fintech or Insurance. Key Responsibilities: Monitor legislative changes and advise on their impact to the business. Manage all aspects of indirect tax compliance, including VAT and customs obligations. Ensure VAT processes are carried out effectively, including preparation of VAT workings, reconciliations, and incorporation into Group VAT returns. Analyse and complete Group VAT returns; coordinate other indirect tax filings. Handle customs and Northern Ireland protocol requirements, including preparing and submitting Trader Support Service (TSS) declarations. Maintain audit-ready documentation for VAT recovery, customs declarations, and risk assessments. Ensure adherence to HMRC and Revenue Commissioners deadlines for indirect tax filings. Provide finance and operational teams with indirect tax and CIS guidance, training, and process improvements. Support Finance in ensuring CIS compliance is accurate and complete. Communicate with HMRC and Revenue Commissioners on VAT, CIS/RCT, and import-related matters. Liaise with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely audit information. Collaborate with internal and external tax services to identify risks and ensure compliance. Support implementation and optimisation of tax technology and automation tools. Provide support to the Tax Manager with year-end financial accounting calculations and computations. Assist the Tax Manager with project work, cross-functional initiatives, and ad hoc technical matters.
