Caretaker (Temporary with Potential to Become Permanent) Location: MaidenheadSalary: SCP 8 – SCP 12 (dependent on experience)Start Date: As soon as possible An opportunity has arisen for a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join a dedicated team and support the day-to-day running of a school site. The role will initially be offered on a temporary basis, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. As a SEND school supporting children with autism, the organisation is seeking an individual who aligns with its values and is committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment for pupils and staff. About the Role Reporting to the Site Manager, the Caretaker will play a key role in maintaining the school premises and ensuring a safe and well-presented environment. Responsibilities will include: • Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks (e.g. painting, minor plumbing, woodwork), • Undertaking daily health and safety checks and ensuring compliance with school policies, • Monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards across the site, • Conducting routine inspections (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lighting, water safety, PAT testing), • Supporting with site security, including opening and locking the premises., • Assisting with grounds maintenance such as grass cutting and general upkeep, • Responding to emergencies and ensuring the site remains safe at all times, • Liaising with contractors and supporting with deliveries and movement of equipment What the Organisation Is Looking For Essential qualities include: • A positive attitude and willingness to learn, • Basic practical/DIY skills, • The ability to work independently and use initiative, • Strong attention to detail and a sense of responsibility, • An understanding of, or willingness to learn, Health & Safety standards, • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team Desirable (but not essential) • Previous experience in a caretaking or maintenance role, • Knowledge of working within a school or facilities environment, • Relevant training (e.g. PAT testing, fire safety, manual handling) What Is Offered • Full training and ongoing support, • A welcoming and supportive working environment, • Opportunities for professional development, • The potential to secure a permanent position Safeguarding This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory pre-employment checks.
