Our patented additive reduces emissions while improving strength and durability, offering a scalable solution for one of the world’s most polluting industries. \n Having recently scaled up our production process 10x, we are building a pilot plant in Nottingham that will operate using real flue gas. This will inform the design of a 100x larger commercial demonstrator. C4C is backed by major industrial partners (SCG, Goldbeck) and collaborates with leading UK universities. \n \n The Role \n C4C is seeking a motivated Graduate Chemist to support laboratory and R&D activities on a flexible, zero-hours basis. \n This is a hands-on role ideal for someone looking to gain industrial experience in applied chemistry, materials development and plant operation. You will contribute to experimental work, synthesis, and testing, supporting the operation of the pilot plant. \n \n Key Responsibilities \n • Support laboratory experiments, including synthesis and testing of materials \n • Assist with material characterisation (e.g. XRD, SEM, TGA, DSC) \n • Conduct experimental work and contribute to data collection and analysis \n • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation \n • Follow all safety and compliance procedures \n • Support general lab operations, troubleshooting, and organisation \n \n Essential Requirements \n • PhD in Chemistry (2:1 or above) \n • Strong understanding of core chemistry principles \n • Basic laboratory experience (synthesis, testing, or materials work) \n • Good analytical and problem-solving skills \n • Strong organisation, attention to detail, and record-keeping \n • Good communication and ability to work in a team \n • Proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn \n \n Desirable Experience \n • MSc or PhD in Chemistry or related field \n • Experience with analytical techniques (XRD, SEM, TGA, DSC) \n • Experience in materials science, carbon capture, or surface chemistry \n • Understanding of cement or concrete chemistry \n • Familiarity with data analysis tools \n \n Benefits \n • Hands-on experience in cutting-edge CO₂ utilisation technology \n • Exposure to leading industry partners and UK universities \n • Opportunity to contribute to real-world decarbonisation projects \n • Potential pathway to a full-time role based on performance \n

The Role \n We are seeking a Scale-Up Chemist to bridge laboratory chemistry and industrial manufacturing as Vateris moves toward demonstration plant deployment. \n The company is preparing to deliver a ~£15 million demonstration plant from Q4 2026 onwards, and this role will play a key part in translating laboratory chemistry into reliable industrial operation. \n We are specifically looking for candidates with practical industrial scale-up experience and backgrounds closely aligned to process industries. \n Responsibilities \n\n • Support pilot and future demonstration plant operations\n, • Translate laboratory procedures into scalable industrial processes\n, • Troubleshoot process variability and operational issues\n, • Improve robustness, operability and process consistency\n, • Develop scalable operating procedures and QC methods\n, • Work closely with engineering and operations teams\n, • Support commissioning and scale-up activities\n\n Requirements \n\n • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline from a top 5 UK university or equivalent leading European institution, or equivalent industrial experience in a highly relevant field\n, • Typically 5+ years of industrial experience in pilot plants, manufacturing or industrial scale-up environments\n, • Strong practical understanding of industrial chemical processes and plant operations\n, • Experience with slurry systems, precipitation, crystallisation, powder handling or related industrial processes\n, • Strong troubleshooting and operational problem-solving capability\n, • Comfortable working hands-on with industrial equipment and operations\n, • Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving and execution-focused environments\n\n Highly Desirable \n\n • Experience from specialty chemicals, industrial minerals, fertilisers, carbon capture, hydrometallurgy or related process industries\n, • Experience supporting plant commissioning, startup or process optimisation\n, • Experience working in startups or industrial scale-up companies\n\n
